Since my last comment we returned to St Malo this year but must report that the course was not in its usual condition. Some of the holes notably the 5th and 16th were closed. Check this out before you book

I have visited Le Tronchet with a group of friends for the last five years in May of each year.
We all like the course and the friendly wecome we receive. The course offers a great challange for all handicaps and is set in such great surroundings. It is a joy to play on a course is well maintained and is not restricted by lack of space. It's a good walk from green to tee on some holes and there is a great sense of each hole being seperate and individual. I am still waiting to get a decent score on the 16th hole with its second shot over the lake to a raised green.
We generally play 18 holes in the morning and a nine hole team event in the afternoon on the nine hole course which has a tricky eighth dog leg hole set among the trees.
Sitting on the balcony of the club house after a days golf enjoying a beer and watching players coming into the 18th is the end a perfect day.
We have played other courses in Brittany but still come back to Le Tronchet and never tire of it's delights even if the weather is not too good.

Le Tronchet is a great golf course. Try it if you've just stepped off the ferry at St Malo and need to clear your head.
I played the course on 25th July 2002 and green fees this year were 41 Euros (about £28).
There are some great holes over a feature lake - Par 3 4th hole is a little dink with a seven iron, but don't be short! The 16th comes back across the lake but with your second shot so make sure you take a fairway wood off the tee to stay short of the water, then a seven or eight iron should get you onto the centre of the green.
The par 5s are reachable in two good strikes so there is hope for a good score if you are straight and accurate from the tee.
I'd recommend this course and also the beautiful Des Ormes course at Dol de Bretagne if you are staying for a few days in the Brittany area.
Happy Golfing!
Tony.

We played this course in May 2002 and can only endorse previous stellar comments. However, if you're going to this part of Brittany do not miss out on Gold de Pleneuf Val Andre - 30 miles up the coast - a wonderful mix of parkland and seaside golf. Long, immaculately maintained and the 11th is one of the most spectacular holes you will ever see. Strangely, this course doesn't appear on this site - it should be. It's memorable.

This club, which has an 18 and 9 hole course is something else. Some of the best golf holes I have ever played - a Par 3 across a lake from an elevated tee, a par 4 on the inward nine with the biggest bunker I have ever seen and a huge rock in the middle of it. The course was near on empty, in fact we never saw anyone until we were on the 13th , the clubhouse is excellent with great food and very friendly staff. The 9 hole course is a great test of your golf as well and I would thoroughly recommend it.
