Played the course in late April - absolutely ouragously brilliant. Stood on the first tee with the wind blowing my immediate thoughts were this is going to be a long day!!! Long it was but filled with a memorable experience. When the pro suggested taking an extra 2 clubs into the wind we shrugged our shoulders and thought "i wouldnt have thought so"! - i must add some holes 3 extra clubs were needed!! - All this just added the day as it is a course like none I have ever played. beautiful scenery even with rain in the air. A must for any golfer.

A jewel of the West. An amazing course set to the panoramic background of the Connemara mountains and the Atlantic ocean. We were lucky to play the course with Blue skys and sun in September! Even so the breeze did catch our ball. It would be a frightening test of your golf if you played there on not such a perfect day.

The golf pro was as friendly as you would expect from an Irish Club and gave my wife and myself some great tips. He was actually from Wiltshire, though he was as Irish as the Irish themselves, my course guide will now be forever optimistically known as a Birdie maker, not that I made any at Ballyconnelly!

From the first tee, you have decisions to make. Cut the Dog leg with a driver or play it safe with a 7 iron. I played with abandon and was rewarded. Not one of the holes is as easy as you think. Each hole is an adventure and a picture postcard of Irish Links at its best. Make sure you have your camera with you.

The course itself was very well maintained, the greens were so green (I just had to say that!) and manicured. You had to think about the direction of your putt as you were not playing on a level playing field here.

Ballyconnelly has a great club house offering a good pint of Guinness and sizeable food portions. My favourite Irish course, I look forward to playing it again. I just hope I get the same weather.

Out of this world! The best I've played in Ireland.

We stayed in Oughterard as our base town and this was a hour from that point. Known as Connemara Championship links or Ballyconneely by the locals this is top drawer golf with the friendlist pro and bar staff I've ever met!

The 1st is great with a slight dog left and then the whole course starts to open up in front of you climaxing with 4 of the best holes I've ever played.

Oh... if it's all going bad then simply stand back and look at the white sand and pale blue Atlantic ocean lapping up on the shore - not bad at all....?!

Outstanding!! We'll be back again and again.

Played this course the summer of 2000. Wonderful Course with great views. The course has many greens tucked into Dunes, some of the holes make turns you really can't see from the tee, and it can be quite long into the wind. I'm glad I made the trek from Galway. Took a long time to drive to this course from Galway but the sheep on the roads made the ride interesting.

Played in late Oct, 2000. 27 holes exist. I could only finish 10 holes for the weather and darkness (my fault), but it was a fascinating test in constantly changing winds! Each hole is seemingly simple, but challenging due to conditions. I have never hit so many hooded 3 irons close to the deck with all my might. A magnificent spot at the end of the earth, and you must leave ample time to find it. Recommended, memorable.

The Wild West of Ireland did not disappoint. From the scenery, to the pubs of Clifden, and our gracious landlady at the B&B, we enjoyed every minute of our stay in Connemara. The high point was of course our two rounds at Connemara. Over the two days in late June, we bundled up against the North Atlantic "breeze", and played in shirtsleeves in the Celtic sunshine. We have played only 50 or so courses in Canada, the US and Ireland, but Connemara, you're the favourite! Local knowledge is everything, especially when the wind provides that little extra challenge. Some of the holes may look straight forward from the tee, but your lie in the middle of the fairway can be downhill and 190 yards into the wind! For us the most difficult hole is the 8th, not only was it straight into the wind on both days, but try and get any second shot near the pin! Looking forward to the new nine. Any plans for a full 36???
