What a course - played in a howling gale but thankfully stayed dry. We were the only people on the course which is testing and truly spectacular with superb greens and fairways. Two and a half hour drive to get to it but well worth it. Clubhouse facilities were slightly limited as some rebuilding work being carried out but the Guiness was still available. Would definitely play it again - hopefully on a calm day.

What a fantastic links course. Is there a better...more spectacular...more scenic...more testing back 9 anywhere in the world?? I think not. Playing in brilliant weather helped!! In a gale of wind and lashing rain I would expect to "run for the bar" after 9 holes! 23 members of our society took on this couse. The course beat all 23 of us but there wasn't one member in the bar afterwards who was not smiling. Well worth the long journey to get there.

Tough, fair, scenic, exhilarating! Among the very best links courses anywhere! Staff and members are very friendly... The one course that will feature in all my trips to Ireland from now onwards.

This IS the world's toughest links course.
It is well worth the trip out to Belmullet, to play the brainchild of the arch-sadist "Eddie Hacket". The most welcoming clubhouse and staff you could imagine. Oh yes here's a tip keep it on the fairway or you could lose the ball and your clubs.

I fell in love with Carne walking up the first fairway. In the pictures we took of this day, I kept a distinct smile on my face........what a place! This is Eddie Hackett's crown jewel,...his finest piece of work. Such linksland as this is only worthy of a true test. Mission accomplished, Mr. Hackett. The place took away James W. Finegan's breath. Mine too! Ballybunion has its middle holes, Royal County Down has its front nine, and Cruden Bay has its criss cross holes......all these are built on huge, breathtaking sandhills. My friends, Carne has eighteen holes on such hills. Never have I experienced such exhileration. Majestic, traditional, and most of all absolute joy. Make a special effort to trek to Belmullet and you will receive a just reward.
