Dooks Golf Club Player Reports

I played the links at Dooks in August 2003. It is an interesting course with some really good holes. My favourite was no 8. Not a very long course, not a very dramatic course, not as well known as the famous neighbours - but a true linkscourse and a true test of Your ability as a golfplayer. The course was wellkept, greens well cut, fairways good. The view from some of the holes was great. I'd like to return to this friendly course. The staff was nice, the bar and the food more than waht You can expect in Ireland and of course the Guniess after golf was perfect.

Course played August 9, 2003. Saturday morning having turned up at the course and the starter allowing me to sneak on after the members had finished tee-ing off.

A links course but not quite the "norm" as far as I have played. Wonderful design and layout, blind tee shots, blind second shots and in some cases blind third shots! Small greens, so smooth, so true (I 1 putted 8 of the first 10 holes), so good. Magnificent views, extremely welcoming clubhouse and pro shop....not sure what else you need to make a truly delightful day playing the oldest course in Ireland I believe.

We drove from Rosslare and it took nearly five hours, behind a parade of tractors and horse boxes. Gradually, the mist started to lift, and the mountains came into view. The roads became narrower until eventually thye were single track. At the end of one these we found the Dooks. An enchanting place, unforgettably surrounded by mountains and water. Wonderfully challenging holes, with mystery and playfulness both vital ingredients. It's a long way form England but I will go again.

Very challenging links course, with magnificent views of sea and mountains. The course is quite exposed and this location gets some of the most extreme weather conditions in Ireland. The faiways are very tight and a lot of accuracy is required. The course is well kept and is only busy during July/August months. I really enjoy playing here as a great way to unwind: even when having a bad day I can't get frustrated in those surroundings.
