Nice course. A group of us played it on the way to the west coast and all were impressed. Very good condition, nice greens, great views and some interesting holes, not least the dog-leg 12th the other guy mentioned - aim WAY left ! The clubhouse facilites are very good too, and all the staff were very friendly. All in all well worth a visit.

My freinds and I have been coming to Ireland to play golf for over 10 years. Athlone golf course is the only course that we have retuned to every single time we've been here. It's a very good test of golf with many memorble holes, the opening two stand out for me. When I organised my first tour I was short on information and I read an article in a magazine which read "Athlone golf club, the view from the clubhouse is worth the green fee alone". I couldn't put it better myself.

I played the course in July 1999, I found the course very hard but beautiful. There is really some outstanding holes like the 12th where you have to play over two hills with a blind drive and it is a wonderful hole.
