I've played Bearna twice and found it an extremely enjoyable course to play. I believe the course is fairly new but it looks like it's been there forever. The course is situated in an almost surreal landscape of hillocks, ditches and peat bogs on the edge of a bay, but it's not a links - it is quite unlike any other course I have played. You need to be straight, anything straying will end up either in gorse, long grass , ditch or peat bog. Greens were excellent on both visits
The new clubhouse is excellent, we received a warm welcome and the quality of food and drink at the 19th was excellent. Good value for money - next time I am in the Galway area I will make a point of playing Bearna again.

Just back from a trip to Galway when we played Bearna 3 times in 2 days. Great test of golf, every hole is different and the last 4 can really destroy your card. Also look out for the par 4 with the approach over the lake - I put a couple in the drink. Only quibble would be that the greens were slightly ropey but it was early season so will no doubt improve. Great hospitality from everyone at the club too.

The new 'Turnberry' of Ireland!
We arrived with a scratch golfer and his immediate retort was "Wow! this is just like the Ailsa course at Turnberry!". This is without doubt a championship links course.
A relatively new course although you wouldn't know that, it plays tough with the course twisting and turning - it provides challenge after challenge. Not for the faint-hearted but most definitely a golfer with a handicap of 20 or less will get a serious thirll out of this one!
Excellent facilities throughout form the clubhouse to the pro-shop to the course - this place is set to play a massive part in the future of Irish championship golf.
Go and play it!
