We got to play this course this past weekend. As stated before, it is part parkland and part links layout. We were to play the course on the Monday after the monsoons hit NI (15 feet of water under a bridge in Belfast) and arrived to see a sign that said "Course Closed" on it. We went in the clubhouse and spoke with the pro. He said he never had heard that the course closed due to rain. We were luck to go down the road to Portstewart to play later on that morning. When we did play on Thursday, we were greatly rewarded - moist fairways on the first 5 holes (parkland) with dry fairways the rest of the way. By the way, take your climbing shoes. There is quite a hike to get to some holes up the hill!

I thought that this course offered great value for money. I would have happily paid, and I think anyone who has played here would agree with me, twice as much as the amount I did pay. The first five holes are parkland holes, sandwiched and fairways running alongside two different rivers. It looked very ornate and trimmed. This part was fairly simple.

The next 13 were very tricky! The 9th requires a deadly second shot and any mistake made is very costly. I had my golf ball taken away by a rabbit because my second shot landed in its hole. Quite strange? Amongst the others there is a par 3 over a beach! A brilliant course and a friendly club.

First impressions were excellent, but playing it was even better. There are some gorgeous holes and the views are awesome.

The first 5 holes are over the road, but after that it's up to the top of the hill via the coastal route.

The trickiest hole to face is the 9th, where you have to find the gap from the tee and then launch it all uphill to the green.

I was also warmly greeted in the pro shop, and they were very helpful in pointing out where to go to get started.

I can highly recommend this course.

Beatiful setting overlooking the bay. First five holes go inland which are all good holes. Third was a problem alongside the road waiting for a safe moment to tee off. Cross the road and follow the cliff edge up towards the back nine. Breathtaking views. Greens were extremely fast !

Well worth the visit. Don't forget to call in at Bushmills distillery and Giants Causeway.
