North course is a good test and was an enjoyable round apart from the massive distances from green to tee on the front 9. I'm not an old bloke but glad i rented a power caddie!
South course is one of the best I have played in the algarve - on a par with the old course which is rated the best in portugal.
Expensive in the club though, 6 euros for a pint of orange! and the bar shut at 7 leaving some of our patry without a drink when they came in. (Ratings are for south course)

Played in Jan. this year and although I enjoyed the course I'm always disappointed when I don't start at the 1st (or at least the 10th). Starting at the 8th where there were limited facilities wasn't ideal but the course itself was superb and probably the best alround condition of the 3 we played (Pennina & Carvoerio Pinta the others). GPS buggies a novelty and neccesity with huge distances between greens & tees.
Some excellent holes, maybe a bit too "complexy", to a traditionalist.
Simon Murray (England) 11/05/04
GPS buggies were good fun however the course didnt live up to the standard set by Vilamoura Old Course and San Lorenzo on the previous two days.
Robert Smith (united kingdom) 19/01/02
have been on three or four visits to these courses and after playing both feel that the ria formosa course is much the better. Greens seem to be in much better condition and fairways are MUCH tighter. Anyone going to play for the first time in the Algarve must play this course along with VALE DO LOBO "ROYAL" COURSE (friends played the ocean course also and urged me to play it but didnt enjoy it half as much as the Royal)
