Like Pinhal and Millennium, the Laguna course is one of those you typically play as part of a golfing tour / holiday. Both Millennium and Laguna share the same large and nice club house and practice areas. You should play any of the standard Vilamoura courses before playing the other Algarve courses otherwise you’ll be disappointed with Laguna. Have played Laguna many times from April through to September and the course condition varies. Laguna starts with a long par 5 that to most mortals can’t be reached in two, therefore don’t take on the trying to fly the bunkers instead leave yourself a wedge for your third. The second is a simple par 3 with bunker left & right, whilst the 3rd is a dog-leg par 4 that requires you to land your tee shot between the left bunker and the tight water. The 4th is a par 3 with a back to front slope and this is followed by the par 4 5th that has a daunting tee shot. Trust your yardage for the approach to the green here too. The short par 4 6th is drivable with the wind behind you and the next couple of holes a straight-forward if planned well. The back 9 finishes on a nice looking fairway with a well construction to aim at. The back nine begins with a long par 5 where the old Carob tree towards the green is your target. On the back 9 there’s a nice mixture of holes involving a long par 4, dog-leg over water par 4 and two par 3’s involving carrying water. Laguna finishes with a par 4 whereby you can create a birdie opportunity by flying your tee shot over the some Carob trees. Overall a pleasant course that has water hazards like the name Laguna implies, however rounds can be slow in the popular months with the hoards of four-ball parties. Whilst flat it’s an interesting walk with Hoopoes common on all fairways, Terrapins in the lakes and both Hen & Marsh Harriers over the reed beds.

Played Laguna last week and can only say that 90% of the Fairways on the course were awful (and I am being kind). We also played Vila Sol which did not have the same problem so I can only assume it is lack of maintenance. Apart from that, the course layout was great although the scenery was a bit scarce. The Greens were in great condition as were the bunkers. It is not an easy course which does need some course Management. The Millenium Course I believe was in better condition than Laguna. The Clubhouse was nice along with the food & drink which was not really overpriced. Save your money until they have sorted the Fairways out. We played Laguna as pick and place (when you found a piece of grass !!). Very disappointing.

We played this as our first round of a four day golf trip in november 2006. It is a nice opener for an visit to Vilamoura.

Uses the same clunhouse as the millinium which is a superior golf course especially holes 3-7.

Played here on 20/09/2004 and was very pleasantly surprised. Greens were superb, as were the fairways. Clubhouse/restaurant facilities were excellent and the whole approach of staff was very friendly and professional - the starter showed us to the first tee and watched our drives sail down the middle of the first fairway (thank goodness). Although we were not asked to produce handicap certificates, our shoes were checked to ensure we adhered to their soft spike rules.

The restaurant provided both hefty snacks and excellent meals depending upon the time of day.

A great course at which to start a golf holiday.

I'm afraid this was a bit of a disappointment altough this may have had something to do with the fact that the 2 previous days we had played San Lorenco and Vila Sol.

Not a bad layout but the fairways and greens were in a bad way. The entire course will need a good 5-10 years to mature.

If you have a choice between this and the "Old Course" there is no contest.

OK, so where to begin. Having played Troia, The Old Course, Millenium and Pinhal our merry band turned up for a 7.40 am tee-time. The sun was coming up, and the fairways were wet. This course is a little gem set in amongst some of the finest courses in all of Europe. Maybe 3 holes (2/6 and 7) are poor but the rest are a true test of golf. This course is as close to links golf as The Algarve will get. When the wind blows the back 9 is a true test, and as good a group of 9 holes you will get in all of Portugal. And I mean that. Accuracy will make each hole reachable in the required 2 or 3 shots, but without a solid short game the pars will not come. Enjoy the par 5's and holes 12 - 15 inc, these are beautiful. Without those 3 poor holes this course would challenge The Old Course and QDL as my favourite course in The Algarve.

A nice pleasant start for 14 of us on a weeks golf. Clubhouse and staff were up to scratch. Most players scored well, I suspect because the greens were slower and easier than anticipated (ignore the practice putting green, this is more representative of the Millennium course).

Recommended for a Society starter or a social holiday round.

Laguna is an American style course; long, wide fairways, fast greens with water on a number of the holes. The most memorable holes being 3, 4 and 5 where water comes in to play. Also 14 and 15 are both good holes, again with water. Recommended: 7/10 lacks the views of some other courses, but in v good condition. Jan 2001.

A flat, generous course which looks benign but can surprise you with the water hazards. Generaous fairways allow players of all handicaps to enjoy the course and post a reasonable score. The cluhouse is built along Arab lines and is a very nice place to replace lost liquids! Well worth a visit whilst in the Algarve.
