Aroeira Golf Club Player Reports

I stayed on-course and played Aroeira I and II for a week at the end of April with a group of friends. Both courses are an absolute joy to play and can be thoroughly recommended. Aroeira I is slightly less challenging than II, which is in better general condition, is slightly tighter, has more water and has much faster greens than I. That said, Aroeira I is still a fine course. The clubhouse (Aroeira I only - there are virtually no facilities at Aroeira II itself) is perfectly adequate and the food was excellent quality and good value. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The appartment we stayed in was excellent - spacious, comfortable with all mod cons (you must have transport - our appartment was about 3 miles from the clubhouse!). Not too much going on in the evenings - you need to go off-site. There are many good restaurants within a few minutes drive - make sure you visit the Brazillian.

Played both 1 and 2 in late march. No. 2 definately wins it for me. 1 lacks fairway bunkers, is relatively wide and straight forward with much of the holes having the same feel.
The variety of holes on number 2 is much greater. The par 5 4th is interesting because of a fairway split by a bunch of trees about 100 m from the green. The 2 closing holes are also pretty challenging. But why just a wooden shed for a clubhouse when aroeira 2 is surrounded by some amazing villa's?

We played both 1 & 2 during a week long stay in Lisbon. Both were in superb condition and a joy to play. 1 is tighter whilst 2 is longer. Both equally challenging. Worth noting that 2 has no clubhouse so if you want refreshments before you play make sure you "fill up" at the clubhouse on 1

Aroeira 1 is predominantly a medium to low handicappers golf course – high handicappers use your shots wisely. The course is tree lined, long and the greens fast and tricky. Water plays a big part too. The course is an easy walk. Pluses: Complete challenge. Minuses: Changing facilities could be better. Conclusion: Play and enjoy.

Both are nice course..more water on 2,which makes it slightly harder.Fairly wide fairways. When we played the greens and fairways were pretty lush, with hardly any run.Target golf required.Would certainly return.

We played A1 and A2 (twice) in 2001; both excellent courses with generous fairways and consistent greens. A1 requires more careful planning and is a harder walk while A2 seemed more fun.
Excellent facilities and very friendly and helpful staff; watch out for the flies if it's humid!

Well laid out tree-lined holes so accuracy required. The water hazards make the course more interesting. If planning to play I & II, leave enough time as the 1st tees are about a mile apart and the club house is next to I. A lot of contruction work and can be noisy.

Well kept, course with some water, but mainly fairly wide pine-tree lined fairways. Some way out of Lisbon - 20 min taxi drive from Costa da Caparica. Staff very friendly. Greens fees v.reasonable, but club hire was half the price of green fees!

After playing several courses in portugal this was my favourite. Wonderful condition even after heavy rain. Fairways are reasonably wide. But anything drifting into the pine trees which lined each hole. Would require a difficult shot through the trees or a simple safety shot back onto the fairway
