Aboyne Golf Club Player Reports

I thought the courses condition is constantly very good, the greenkeepers do a marvelous job and the club professional is outstanding. The competitions are organised very well and have had deserving winners over the years i simply thought it was about time someone paid tribute to the gem of deeside.
Kevin Smith (England) 16/04/02
I have been playing Aboyne since 1977. The course has changed a bit but it is still a magical place. The scenery is breathtaking, the people friendly and the golf course is brilliant. Best holes are the 1st (still haven't birdied this in 25 years), 11th (if you hit a draw of the tee, forget it) and the 16th which is a huge dogleg right, avoiding the massive oak at the corner.
Hope to keep coming back for another 25 years at least.
Drew Anderson (Scotland) 19/12/01
Great course, beautiful setting and a definite game of 2 different halves. I thought the 10th was a great hole, a very long par 4 and wouldn't want to play it off the medal tee which brings the water into play. Good food and friendly staff plus a great greenfee makes this a very enjoyable day out.
Eoin Dickson (Scotland) 10/08/99
I played there on 8/8/99 and thought it was a great course - not too long but still quite challenging. The clubhouse and catering were great too. Favourite hole was the 16th - a dogleg par 4 with an elevated tee which I reduced to a masterful drive and a finely placed 8-iron (and missed birdie putt of course). Congratulations to Mr Horne who managed to play par golf with no sleep and a full sack and Mr Lacey who played 15 holes with one in the bomb-bay.

In 1989 Tim Gunson of Warkworth, N.Z. played several rounds with Major Ian Preston of Aboyne. He thoroughly enjoyed both the golf and the company and is looking forward to returning shortly. Being his first visit to Scotland the stay of three weeks was far too short to take in everything but there will be a next time. Thanks Aboyne Golf Club, you did me proud.
