Played this beautiful course on Friday with 3 friends. Right from the start impressions were very high. Lovely course, beautifully maintained with greens that were a dream to putt on despite me still not quite getting the measure of them by the 18th. Fairly open layout on a number of the holes but a stray drive or iron and you were soon in some sort of bother - water, rough or sand. The whole feel of the course is superb with some stunning views as you make progress around the course. Feature hole? Hard to pick one out alone but a good test of course management all round.
Had a 2 course dinner which also was of a very high standard served by very pleasant staff in the clubhouse to round of a great day for us all.
A course to be savoured for sure!

Caldwell is a majestic course although it may be a tad short it has all the features which make it fantastic, be it the little burn at the 3rd, the water on the 4th, the long 5th, the enchanting 6th whatever hole it is it's a magnificent course. the 11th is a super hole and the short par 4 14th is almost the most beatiful hole around. although right in the middle of the course, when you see those foriegn trees behing the green you fell as if you are hitting into the middle of nowhere, a most wonderfull wilderness if you will. the long par 4 15th is a nightmare into the wind but a good drive is essential, left is long rough and tall trees, right is the 17th fairway although with an unrelenting row of trees between the two fairways it can kill a good round if you go over there as it is hard to go through or over them. the par 3 16th is another enchanting hole. at 150 yards it is no more than a 7 iron but don't fall short or you'll be in the burn and either side of the very small green is a large bunker waiting to suck your ball in. the par 5 17th is a staight forward hole with a new bunker just added around 200 yards out so this shouldn't pose any problem but a 3rd shot may be needed to reach the green. At the 18th the tee shot is blind and there is that wilderness again on either side of the fairway. It looks a pretty harmless approach to the green with only one bunker gaurding the right hand side but overshoot and you'll find yourself with a nasty chip downhill or in the steep bunker at the back which is again a downhill shot onto the gree and will kill your round in an instant. all in all a fab course which i would reccomend to any ameture golfer.

Good course though not very long. Also agree that just falls a wee bit short for the Ryder Cup.

Thank you for noting my comment of yesterday and correcting Caldwell's address so promptly. It's refreshing to find such an active website. I'll mention it to all my friends.

If you're looking for this club in Lanarkshire, you'll have a hard job. It's in Renfrewshire!

The golf club is good, however after a lot of consideration I have decided it is not up to the standard required to host the Ryder Cup in the year 2008.
