Cochrane Castle Golf Club Player Reports
Steve Bramwell (Scotland) 08/07/04
I am a member of Cochrane castle and have been for many years. The Course has improved greatly over the last couple of years. The greens in particular are in superb condition all thanks no doubt to the ground staff. The catering has improved as well and represents good value for money. These two things backed up with a challenging course with some tasty golf holes like the first a par 3, 166-yard green elevated on a Plato can make what seems a relatively easy target frustrating to reach. I highly recommend a round not because I'm a member just because it's so good.

I refer to the letter that states that cochrane castle golf course
was in poor condition i would say that he or she has over
reacted in this case as i happen to work there as one of the
greenstaff even though i work there doesnt mean that i am
going to say that its always in excellent condition the weather
can change the condition of any course wether its st.andrews
or cochrane castle i would say though that its always in good
condition never poor as so many other visitors and guests
have complemented the greenstaff for doing a good job
looking after it like other greenkeepers on other courses they
would get the same complements if there course was in
good condition to it is not eay to keep a golf course tidy and
in good condition in all weathers especially if you live in
scotland as it mainly rains i think this person should take up
another sport as golf is not for them i would urge other golfers
who are keen on the sport to play the course and see for
themselves how good it really is its awell maintained course
with beautiful scenery as far as the eye can see the course
is fairly challenging to any golfer low or high handicapper
as to the other matters i would say that the members are very
friendly as so is the golfpro so come and enjoy a round of golf
at cochrane castle golf club and see for yourselves thank you

I have just played Cochrane Castle and I was very shocked. The course in itself was poor, small rough greens surrounded by badly maintained bunkers with more grass than sand. The really sad thing was the rudness and arrogance of the members and club professional. When I teed of on the first hole and hit a rather poor shot I was stunned when I saw the club pro laughing and immitating my swing. I was even more suprised when afterwards when we had played the rather poor course we were not even allowed to buy a drink in the bar because we weren't members. I was saddend by this farse of a course and urge others to steer clear

Just finished playing a delightful gem of a course on the south side of the Forth. The majestic views of the Forth Valley are suitably matched by the first class presentation of this short and pleasant course. At 15/round it's a bargain , and one I certainly intend returning to.
