Played the Antonine course. Disappointed not to see the Antonine wall, but there you go.
Welcome was warm, but a little confusing. The starter chap didn't seem to have much of a clue. We had expected to pay £19 for a round including a bacon roll (as we had been told was the deal when we called midweek), so we had skipped breakfast, only to find that there were no rolls available. We were also categorically told that they did not accept credit cards, when they display the Visa and Mastercard logos.
Course itself was wet - a bit wetter than I would have expected. There had been rain through the week but nothing terrible. Drainage seems to be an issue.
Not as much an issue as the greens, however. Even for the time of year they were absolutely horrible. Uneven, pitted and who knows when they were last cut - they were more like fairway! Tees and greens were in better nick.
There are some very nice looking holes on this course and a few excellent views. The design is certainly interesting and makes full use of the hilly landscape, but maybe a few too many short par 4s. Expect some blind shots and hanging lies - and sore thighs if you're carrying a full bag.
Clubhouse looked modern and there's a gym and spa which we did not use.
Overall it's a very nice layout let down by the condition of the course. Worth playing if you happen to be in the area but I would not recommend travelling to it.

The Antonine is by far the better course with tighter fairways and usga spec greens! It offers a challenging but enjoyable game. Anyone that can't really play well should avoid this course unless you intend to lose many balls
