Dumfries and Galloway Golf Club Player Reports

Played this wonderful course in June 06. The fairways were excellent and the greens even better.

The club house and its facilities were first class.

i would recommend playing the course twice as there are a number of holes with either blind tee offs of approach shots.

All in all, totally worth a visit

I played the course for the first time a couple of months back now and was very impressed.

Firstly very friendly in the proshop and they got us out a bit earlier than scheduled.

The course is a good challenge with hills offering blind shots and thick rough to swallow the ball if you get it wrong. It is fair though and the greens run true and are excellent.

Would have played it twice if we had the time as the value for a day ticket is excellent.

Also make sure you pay a visit to the bar. We ordered 3 pints Guiness and 3 local ale for only £8!! It makes it difficult to leave.

I'm probabbly biased, as despite being English I actually learned to play at the D&G on my annual holiday in Dumfries.

To me I've always thought that the two sides of the course had a very different character, holes 1-7 and 17 and 18 are rolling parkland, whereas the other side of the road is far more hilly. The 10th (now the 11th) was always a fairly daunting tee shot for the higher handicapper with a steep hill right in front of you.

The greens were always very true if a little slow.

I've not played it since the layout was changed but the hole that was sacrificed, the old 15th was probably my least favourite on the course (234yard uphill par 3!). If you are in the area give it a go, if you like something a bit different I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Years ago I played a course in or near Dumfries, but can not remember its name. I played alone with rented clubs and recollect only a few holes. One was a blind tee shot with a hill about 20 yards in front of the tee box. My only clue as to what to do was the presence of divots at the tee. Most memorable was as I begain, the pro told me on the back nine I should hit my tee shot on the par three, than climb up to another tee box and hit another tee shot to the next par three. I gave him a blank stare, but not wanting to appear to be "another dumb Yank" I carried on without a question. Sure enogh, it became clear when I arrived at the "first" par 3. Is this the couse I played? If not, can anyone out there name the course? Many thanks. I have always enjoyed the Scots and their wonderful country. Best regards, Bill Sutton
