Dumfries and County Golf Club Player Reports
Jeff Anderson (England) 27/05/06
We played Dumfries and County as part of a weeks tour by a society of nine, and ranked it third of the five courses we played. It was well kept and presented, but just not memorable enough to want to go back. At the end of the round we all tried to decide our favourite hole, but that's the problem, there isn't one. The club house staff and pro shop were very hospitable and helpfull, but we had some problems with a pair of members two balls moaning about societies on the course, despite our offers to let them play through.
In summary an ok course that is not too difficult, but there are far more interesting ones further west.

A course well worth playing, usually in tip top condition. My friends and I have had the pleasure of playing this course 3/4 times per year over the past 15 years and still look forward to playing it - roll on 2002.

My dad (George Templeton) was the club pro for some 30+ years until he passed away in 1972. I was raised on its difficult hilly front nine and its rolling back nine with many hidden greens on both front and back. My best score ever on the front nine was 42. On the back 33. Luckily it was in the same round and I won a tournament and got my name on the cup at last. I remember every shot on the back nine including a chip over a sand trap into a hole for a birdie, next hole from the sand trap for a birdie and on the blind 15th nailing a 5 wood second shot to 6 inches from the pin. The front nine has wonderful views of the hillsides in the distance, the grass is so lush and green. Several holes run by the rivers edge and you have to remember a par 5 is a drive and two 7 iron shots and not a drive and a 3 wood into the river. Anyway, thanks for letting me post this here. I live in Alaska USA now and may never be back but my spirit is there yet.
