A group of friends and my self played Dunbar yesterday (6th December) and I thought the course was amazing!!! A lot of holes are played right on the coast line and I would imagine it would be a really tough course in any sort of wind!!
The greens and fairways were in excellent condition and the staff were all really friendly.
I think that there are plans to extend the course but if it was down to me I would leave the layout exactly how it is now!
There are a lot of original features on the course and some fairly tricky approach shots but for the winter rate of £25 a round I would make the 160 mile round trip tomorrow to play it again!
If your looking to play an original links course get yourself to Dunbar - you wont be disappointed!!

I cant beleive nobody has written about this course in the past, what a gem, I played on 06 dec 05 and the course was great, from tee to green the condition for the time of year was first class. A good test of golf for any handicap with some testing holes, i was 13 over after 7 holes but managed to have a great final 11 holes at just 7 over which is not bad for an 18 handicap!! The clubhouse and pro shop look small from the outside but are more than big enough when you go in. The staff were very friendly and the food very reasonably priced. Yes the West Course at north berwick cant be beaten in the area but for cost and closeness then Dunbar is a must if that green fee at the west course puts you off. A must play which i will be doing again in the summer.

We were made very welcome by all of the staff and then had a tremendous round. The main feature of the course is the wall running down the right hand side on the first 7 holes. My particular favourire holes were the 4th, 8th, 13th and 16th which is a really tough par 3 if played into the wind. The best hole of all though for me was the 12th which is one of my favourite holes of all time. Not easy but the shot into the green is fantastically challenging. Well worth a visit when in East Lothian and I shall be interested to see how the pro's do in Open Qualifying.

Dunbar is excellent. The conditioning of the course was superb this summer. Less dramatic than many other links courses, the views to the sea and town provide a wonderful setting for an enjoyable round of golf. This is the kind of course that one would enjoy playing regularily.

Dunbar is a very testing course for those of us who tend to fade the ball (a polite word for slice) as many of the holes have either a wall or the beach running down the right hand side of the fairway. The course is very narrow and favours accuracy over distance. I played on a day when the sun was shining but the wind got up during the back-nine and made it a real challenge. Great views from 4th hole onwards but beware of the burn crossing the 6th and 17th fairways !

Played Dunbar in late May. The course was in excellent condition, no doubt helped by the fact that Dunbar is the sunniest town in Scotland (as claimed on their signboard!)
Quite a few beautiful holes playing along the coast, and when the wind whips up, it can get difficult. Had a great game.
