You need to be driving straight to enjoy Glasgow Gailes or you will spend most of the day hacking out of heather which tends to line almost every fairway. A really beautiful course in good condition for the time of year (£30 was the winter green fee) . The gailes lodge is a good lodge style hotel about 400 yards away if you're visiting the area.

Played with a partner in mid winter after a lot of recent rain and the course was in great condition. Bunkers were nearly all flooded and marked GUR but fairways were clear.

Lots of contractors on site puting in drainage and irrigation. Nearly every bunker on the course had been refaced over the winter.

Best not to stray too far off the straight and narrow or the gorse will gobble up errant tee shots.

Clubhouse and locker room well appointed, staff very courteous and not at all stuffy (as we had anticipated beforehand!). Homely, relaxing lounge.

All in all, we were both treated very well as visitors and would like to return in summer when the greens are reputed to be amongst the best and the fairways are fast and firm.

Well worth a visit, You will not be disappointed.

Great course, great history. The greens are brilliant....once you get there. One of those courses where, if you can find your brain cell, you need to use it! Stray off the fairway, well forget it so I would suggest a good positional game is required. All round course condition very good. Think the green fee was £50 at the time which seemed a bit steep before stepping out on to the first tee.....Just a shame about the unattractive housing/industrial developments/petrol station (75.9p per litre) that blight the fringes of the course - courses such as this should be hallowed. Good one!

We were told by a member of Turnberry that this course was in the best condition of any course on the Ayrshire coast, he was not wrong. This is a must play course with wonderful greens and in excellent condition, friendly staff and good facilities.

After failing to secure a tee time at nearby Western Gailes, our travel agent suggested we try Glasgow Gailes, and I'm glad he did. While not as difficult as Western Gailes (or so we were told by locals familiar with both courses), Glasgow Gailes was very enjoyable nonetheless. It has everything you'd expect from an Open qualifying site - demanding tee shots, challenging bunkers, blind approaches, firm turf tailor-made for bump-and-runs and large, undulating greens. Glasgow Gailes was well-conditioned, and the staff was among the friendliest we encountered on our weeklong trip.

Be sure to have a pint and a sandwich in the lounge after your round. The clubhouse isn't all that huge or ostentatious, but that's part of the place's charm. It's cozy, and welcoming, and that mattered as much to us as the quality of golf course itself.

A superb links golf course with heather lined fairways and testing tee shots. Greens were well kept and true. I have played this course twice in the space of a year, despite living in England. I just had to play it again. Off-course facilities were

great with a well-stocked pro-shop and good food in the bar which looks out over the first fairway. Despite being a junior I was made to feel more than welcome. The green fee is good value for this real hidden-gem of a course.
