played hawick 12/09/07 very impressive when you get out the car and look up at the hill or were we come from the mountain, layed out very well this course but if ur gonna walk it you need to be fitter than a mountain goat,we all had buggies and very glad ov it,3 nice steady holes along the bottom then nice par 4 uphill, then 1 across the top not a very good hole 4 the hookers,stroke1 the 6th and the 7th and 9th tough long par 4s,10 and eleven good par 4s then nice par 3, 16th great par 4 then a 210yrd par3 to finish but its down hill all the way nice finishing hole, this course was alot of the lads favourite alot ov nice reachable par 4s on it but another 1 with tricky greens ,we asked the locals (who were all very friendly and couldnt help us enough) what is best way to stick on the greens they said usually very recptive but had a dry spell and only like this 3 or 4 weeks of year, would like to play again as im sure could shoot lower now no which is best way in to greens, and i played 1 under my h,cap, as didnt have 2 much bother getting there in regulation on alot, must play if in area but get a buggy

The golf course runs up and over the top of Vertish Hill above Hawick. Thus the predominant characteristic of this course is its steepness. The view from the bottom is quite alarming as all you can see on the skyline is the 5th fairway disappearing upwards across the horizon! The course was in reasonable but not great condition, the greens were slow as the grass on them was quite thick (although not too long), but some were covered in leaves. The fairways cross each other at a couple of points making things confusing. A gale was blowing over the top of the hill making things rather tricky ona couple of holes. The clubhouse was nice and the staff helpful. This is not the best course around in our opinion, worth a visit if you can handle the steepness.

Our second year playing here as part of our tour of the Borders with “freedom of the Fairways” tickets. The welcome and the food was again excellent and good value. Our visit coincided with a lucky dry spell this year and the course; particularly the greens were very good. Every hole is a different challenge and the views are truly beautiful, try this course you will not be disappointed.

REFRESHING SCENERY, SOME SPECTACULAR HOLES ON BACK 9, HOWEVER THE GREENS REALLY WERE VERY MUCH IN NEED OF ATTENTION. WELL WORTH A TRIP AS PART OF THE BORDERS SWING, THE MEMBERS ARE VERY WELCOMING TO VISITORS. HOWEVER BE PREPARED TO TALK ABOUT RUGBY AND A MAJOR PLUS POINT YOU MAY MEET THE BRILLIANT BILL McCLAREN.

Hawick is an upland course which gradually rises to four or five hundred feet. We play it each year and it continues to be a worthwhile challenge. It is not very long, but the terrain, tree's and sloping fairways make up for that. The greens are good, views excellent and as a measure of its true test, for many years none of our group has ever taken this course apart!

We played this course as part of a 12 course tour or the Borders. We rated this the 10th best. It is full of character and pretty difficult when the wind blows. There were some spectacular holes. Several of the holes crisscrossed each other which we found annoying and at times confusing.
