Jubilee Course Player Reports

Paul Meikle (Scotland) 24/03/08

We played the Jubilee Course today, 24th March 2008, for only £46. What a bargain! This is one tough track. The greens were excellent to putt on and very quick. It was very windy which makes this course even harder but a joy to play on. The first 7 holes were into the wind which made it a very tough start. I especially liked the 2nd, 5th, 8th, 15th and 16th holes. If this course was not next to the Old Course it would be more famous than it is. A classic links course.

We played the Jubilee one day after the Old Course because we didn't get a tee time on the New Course, but we were not disappointed by any means. Great links golf, challenging and memorable holes. The course played considerable longer then the Old Course although admittedly the fairways are more generous particulary on the long holes. The course was in excellent condition (May 2005) especially the greens.

Returning to St. Andrews I will definitly play the Jubilee again

We played on a Saturday while some of our group played Kingsbarns. Not sure this is Kingsbarns, but it's a fantastic Plan B. There's a little more undulation to this course than some of the others which give you the feeling you have it all to yourself. #15 is a gorgeous hole - one of my favorites in Scotland. This is a great track in my opinion and I will certainly go back.

Played on Sunday 20.10.02. As the Old Course is closed on Sundays I walked to the links clubhouse to see if I could get a game on one of the other courses. The Starters were very helpful, as was everybody else in St. Andrews and I was able to join three other golfers. Two were young lads and the other was one of the professional caddies. Everybody was pleasant and our off-duty caddie was particularly helpful in showing us the way round. The course is a stiff chalenge and you have to keep your wits about you. Straight hitting is essential otherwise you will soon be dipping into your supply of golf balls. The course was in excellent condition and the greens fast. If you have seen St. Andrews bunkers on the television - yes they are that deep!! The pick of the holes are the 8th, through a valley of dunes, and the 15th, tight with a valley in front of the green, both par 4's. Yes we all want to play the Old Course but if you can't get on, the Jubilee makes an excellent substitute. I will play it again - and try to hit the ball straighter, putt better and KEEP OUT OF THOSE BUNKERS!!!!!

Played in July 2002. We played a late afternoon round after 18 earlier in the day at the Duke's Course. This was probably the best use of the course. A good walk to end the day. No memorable holes and easy playing.

Sorry to say it but the Jubilee is disappointing. It's overused and overpriced. Yes I agree it's an experience to play in St. Andrews but there are so many better courses within half an hour of here.

Fantastic Experience!!! Had Not Dreamed It Would Be Possible To Actually Play There Without Having Booked A Tee Time. Strolled Into The Excellent New Clubhouse Just To See What Kind Of Hystrionics Would Have Been Required To Play. 5 Mins Later, I Had To Choosing Whether To Play The New Course Or The Jubilee Course. All Ladies Clubs Had Been Rented Out, So I Trotted Across The Road Hole To Rent Gear From The Old Course Hotel (club Rental Cost As Much As The Green Fees). Joined Three Elderly Gents From The Town For A Thoroughly Enjoyable Round -- Thanks, In Large Part, To Their Generous Sharing Of Local Knowledge! The Course Is Really Tough, And Spectacular. I Have An Indelible Memory Of The R & A Clubhouse And Town Of St. Andrews, Illuminated By A Late Afternoon Sun And Viewed From One Of The Back 9 Tees. Television Cannot Hope To Do Justice To The Scenery, And The Experience Is Unforgettable!
