Lochmaben Golf Club Player Reports
Edward Lowe (England) 06/06/07
Lochmaben Golf Course is well worth a visit. The course itself winds around a small loch which makes for a scenic round. Water does come into play on a couple of holes. Generally the course is flat, a welcome relief after a long journey north. The fairways were in immaculate condition and a joy to play off. The rough was tough, but not impossible. The greens are wonderfully maintained, generally flat and medium paced. If you missed a putt it was the player, not the green to blame because they ran true. I didn’t spend much time in the clubhouse so can’t say much about it other than there were changing facilities and a big bar upstairs.
I will point out that when played there were a number of young trees planted. In two or three years time when they are over 15 feet high the course will become harder, which will favour the straight hitters.
All in all I could recommend this course to players of any standard. The course rewards straight hitting and solid putting. If you’re having an off day the scenery will bring a smile to your face as will the 19th.

Loved it, golfed at the Galloway, the county & powfoot & Lochmaben was by far the best. Excellent surroundings, fantastic greens & challenging but fair was was the most used comment by all of us, 8 "Golfers" from England who had agreat time on your course, Miles better than the rest & reccomended to anyone visiting the area.

As an ex-pat Scot who takes a group of fellow Matlock GC members for 4 days golf in Scotland every year, I'm always a bit apprehensive that my course selection is reliable. Lochmaben exceeded all expectations and was voted the favourite venue of the week for its layout, aspects, presentation, condition and friendliness. And this is against such prestige alternatives as Southerness and Powfoot. Lochmaben is a little gem and great value for money. If you're in the area don't miss it.

Six of us played on the 29th of june.
Very enjoyable day out although a dismal drizzling day. The back nine destroyed my best round of the week , accuracy off the tee is the key to keeping a ROUND GOING.well maintained with friendly staff and members. ( Let us play in middle of comp day). Favorite course amongst us all during our midweek break.

Played this course several times duringa week's holiday in '99 - it rained all week, yet the course was always perfectly presented and the welcome warm and hearty. Visited again recently and was delighted to find that both aspects remain the same. Watch out for the geese on the 8th - they'll get you if you're a bit wayward!
