Played Lothianburn during our annual Scotland trip in September 07. A really enjoyable course, in super condition. Plenty of variety to the holes as one would expect from a James Braid track. Some stiff climbs in places, but we would definately go back sometime, and excellent value on 2F1.

Enjoyed a winter round of golf today at Lothianburn with my son and a friend. We have played many courses in Scotland, and this one was in good winter condition, with most fairways marked off so that the ball could be moved to the side to save them for the summer.
Unfortunately, leaving the 15th green, we encountered a very rude member who shouted that we were "backing the whole course up", this despite the fact that their group had not once had to wait to play a shot behind us. (He had just played a very poor shot to the 15th green!!!!) This spoiled the rest of the round for us.
I timed our threesome at what I consider to be a respectable 3 hours and twenty minutes for the round, and although we found the course and the golf enjoyable (I shot a three over par 74) we won't be back.
One rude person unfortunately colours your opinion of an otherwise good club, and a wonderfully characterful golf course.

Played this course on a Saturday of high winds. What a test of golf! Even though very short the wind & steepness of the terrain more than made up for the lack of length.
The course was in outstanding condition - lush fairways & immaculate lightning greens. It's a credit to the greens staff that after all the wet weather we've had this course is so brilliant.
A word of warning - if you suffer from angina DON'T play it !! It's very hard walking & a pull trolley would have been a hindrance rather than a help. Better to carry a half set.
The only problem we found was that tees were not numbered but very helpful members pointed us to the right ones.
Not a course for seniors ( unless very fit! ) but thoroughly recommended for a day out.

I finally played Lothianburn for the first in summer 2002, I wasn't quite sure what to expect while driving to it because it looked so hilly, but it was a great course!! Each hole has its own character and you never get bored. The greens were fantastic, some of the best, quickest and truest I have played. Although the course is relatively short, accuracey is the key to this golf course so the driver can stay in the bag.
The club house was very present and with the members being extremely friendly my friends and I felt most welcome.
The course also has a very well stocked pro shop.
I was most impressed with Lothianburn!!

This course tests every shot in the bag. Every hole is different and some are totally unique. The greens were superb when I played and the members reckon they are the best in Edinburgh. From the top of the course you can see right over Edinburgh to Fife and beyond. Very friendly club as well - an excellent golfing experience.

Lothianburn was originally laid out by the great James Braid, and features many of his trademarks -blind tee shots, small plateau greens and plenty of hills. Althouhg some of the par 4's are short, they can't be overpowered, and position play is crucial if you want to keep big numbers off the card. The views are stunning and all in all the course is great value for money.
