What a superb, unknown gem !!!

The warm, friendly staff. The nice trek from the bus in Millport up to the course. The practice area. The club house. The superb, small details on the tees itself. The course itself. My totally wrecked card and my big smile. A true gem.

This heatland course have, to my surprise, superb greens. The fairways are as good as possible, taken into account that this is a heavy undulated heatland course. I still found them very good. Hitting the fairways a must though.

The views from the course towards the south, west and north is superb. The best I have ever seen.

Anything negative about this course ? No. I cannot find anything, taken into account that this is an undulating heatland course.

I did this round with a group of mid to high handicappers from a local company (I organised the trip) and we all loved every second of the round. We will be back, bringing even more high and low handicappers with us. This course is a true gem and highly recommended.

What a sperb wee course. Played it for the first time last year (2001). For the price this was a bargain. Good hospitality and very reasonable in price. The course was of the old Scottish style short but tricky. If you want to play golf the way it was intended this is where to come. The special thing was the views. There are none better and you get the place to your self midweek days. A hidden gem.

An ideal course for an outing. Will test the best golfer without doing any damage to the higher handicapper. Views from all round the course are breathtaking. Would recommend any outing considering a course not too far from Glasgow. They even arrange transport from the ferry terminal to the golf course.

This is without a doubt one of the most picturesque courses I have ever played. The uniqueness of this island course is beyond description. The miles of stone fences and the sheep and horses and the ocean in the background all combine to make this a truly remarkable experience. I played this course 2 years ago for the first time in about 27 years. My memories of the course had faded over the years but the truly distinct aspects of the course had not faded. I found the course to be in great shape and well groomed. One memory I had as a child playing this course was the sheep being moved from fairway to fairway to keep the grass closely cropped. I will play this course on evry trip to Scotland Without fail.\r\n

3 of us arrived at Glasgow airport and had a 7 hr wait for our 4th golfer to arrive. We asked about golf in the area and were directed Southward toward Ayrshire. After trying several clubs along the way, we were advised that all area golf clubs were holding their competitions that day and they would be unable to accomodate us. We saw a sign promising "Tourist Information" and asked about golfing in the area and the lady at the information desk phoned several clubs on our behalf and they also were having competitions that day. Finally She she called Millport and they said they could get us on the course. We then took the loacl ferry to the Isle of Cumbrae, a bus into the village, and a taxi to the course. We were warmly greeted and treated with the utmost courtesy. The course was different than any we played before or since. It plays up the mountain, around the mountain, down the mountain, and across few flat areas. It was quite an adventure and one I will always remember. Most Scots we mentioned the experience to were amazed that we had discovered this wonderful course hidden on a mountain on an island. I recommend it for the unusual golfing but mostly for the wonderful friendly people we met there.

If you manage to find a dry day then Millport is quite a good golf course to visit. The condition of the course is pretty poor but it is still quite alot better than it has been in recent years. The food is quite average but resonable priced.
