Had a very enjoyable round on this traditional scottish heathland course. Although it is fairly short it is not as easy as many people would suggest with many blind shots and positioning off the tee essential. If you can do this well you'll have a good chance of scoring well.

The course was in very good condition, greens were slightly patchy but ran true and were receptive to approach shots. The views over moffat and the surrounding scenery was spectacular and added to the enjoyment. We played on a friday afternoon and virtually had the course to ourselves.

The facilities and the clubhouse were very good and the welcome was extremely friendly. The food in the clubhouse was very good too after the round. Ideal location 5 mins from the motorway for passing visitors heading into scotland.

Would definately return in the future.

When we turned up the welcome was very friendly. Our tee off time of 9.56 was running to schedule. The first few holes were ok although very short and didn’t propose much of a challenge. From the fourth is when the fun starts, my approach shot landed on the only green I could see, but turned out to be the 7th not the 4th, as the fourth was hidden without any marker poles to direct you. From then on there was another 8 blind shots which ended up getting a bit boring by the end. I dare say you could play the course to your handicap using a 3 wood, lob wedge and putter. The course did remind m off one close to home which is run by the local council. Need I say any more?

Most people would turn up at as a visiting golfer with some pre-concieved ideas of what the course might be like. Moffat,as the score card would have you believe is short, and therefore, easy. The excellent website the club runs does not prepare you for the visual feast of the surroundings. Its all very scenic, and very peaceful.

The welcome was especially good, and Jeff is particualrly friendly and helpful.

It was touch and go if the course would open, and when it did, it was very wet underfoot. The turf here is excellent to play off though, and although the green were perhaps not at there best, they ran true, with plenty of subtle borrows.

The course has a number of good, if not exceptional holes, and the collection of par 3's were certainly of note. The design and layout of the course has stood the test of time quite well, with the exeception of the fairway bunkers.

The major test of the course is going to be with your wedges, and if these are song, you should be able to play comfortably within your handicap.

The course doesn't test your driving to any extreme, and you could get round without needing to take it from the bag. This isn't a negative, because your tee shot does have to be well placed to set up your view for an approach shot in.

The one major negative is the fact that you do have too many blind shots to play for your second shots, which could be changed, without deminishing the quality or enjoyment of the course.

In summmary, Moffat is a most enjoyable place to play, and is certainly worth a visit if your in the area.

John Murray (England) 31/01/07

I booked a round at Moffat recently and turned up on a cold but pleasant day. The visitor's locker room was opened for me and I was provided with a winter mat. It transpired that I was the only golfer on the whole course so it was like playing on my on personal 18 holes.

The views are really spectacular and the course was in good condition although there was a frost covering and winter greens were in use. It was sometimes difficult to gauge your approach to the greens as they obviously bore little resemblance to the proper greens on the course planner and I have to say some were placed in strange positions. Putting was impossible but that didn't bother me. I just enjoyed a round on a course full of character. It;s not a long course but the rough can be tough and it would be a good test when playing from the competition tees and on proper greens. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and will return later in the year to play again. I paid a green fee of £10 to a greenkeeper whom I met during the round and the person I booked the round with (Geoff, the Club Secretary) was really helpful. All in all a course well worth a visit. Clubhouse was closed so don't know what that's like but it looked traditional and I'd expect the hospitality is good.

The card will tell you that this is a short course, but there are still quite a few holes that need to be beaten to get a decent score here. Just don't get distracted by the views, which are wonderful, especially from the 17th when it's all downhill to the cluhouse!

The hole that most people will remember is the 9th, which is a par 3 that's all uphill to the green. It's that high up that you can't even see the flag, and you just have to hope that the hole is somewhere behind the marker post. Leave it short and a big score awaits you.

I loved playing at Moffat, and would recommend it anyone that's looking for an enjoyable round on a well maintained course with beautiful scenary.

A wonderful discovery. Course was in excellent condition and the welcome very friendly. The corse does not play as short as the yardage suggests. Views are breath taking.

One of the best courses I have played, dont be fooled by it`s short yardage it`s a challenge for golfers of all handicaps, the ninth could really spoil a good front 9(take some oxygen for this hole, it`s steep).Moffat Golf Club is Ideal for club outings with it`s large games room which is relaxing after 1 or 2 rounds.Friendly staff.

Certainly not the longest course in Scotland but one of the most fun to play.

Beware the 9th Port Arthur
