Monifieth Golf Links Player Reports
Geoff Scammell (England) 19/04/07
There are two courses at Monifeith, the Ashludie and the Medal. The 'Ludie' is short and is really for children and old men. The Medal is a different proposition altogether. This is a typical Scottish links course with bumpy fairways and hard, fast greens. And, of course, the wind. Your round starts in quite a benign manner with a couple of short par four holes that play with the prevailing Westerlies. But by the fourth, when the burn comes into play for the first time, you begin to get a real feel for the place. And when you turn into the wind you know you have a real challenge on your hands. Van de Velde qualified for the Open here the year he blew it at neighbouring Carnoustie. Recommended.
