Muckhart Golf Club Player Reports

I have just joined this club this year but had played it many times before. It is delightful course offering a challenge to the experienced golfer and fun and a friendly atmosphere to the less serious player.
The three 9 hole courses offer different challenges;
The oldest 9 - played as the back 9 - offers a mix of long wide and short tight par 4s, requiring a good variety of length and accuracy, culminating in a fantastic par 5 closing hole.
The newest 9 is another tough test of accuracy and distance but its difficulty lies in the length of the rough and the small greens. This 9 holes is still settling in and can have drainage problems in wet weather.
The other 9, my favourite, starts with three short but undulating par 4s to elevated greens. There are back to back dog-leg par 5s, three tough par 3s and a long uphill par 4 played into the prevailing westerly wind.
The clubhouse has been recently refurbished and offers a relaxed, friendly welcome that is so sadly lacking in some golf clubs.
Do not just take my word for it - come and give it a go. Even if your round is not great, you can drown your sorrows over a pint and meal in the village inn.

The new 9 holes have been open for a couple of months now and apparantely they are very good, but "don't miss the fairay" as the original marsh grass has been left between holes and is BRUTAL. The rest of the course is in good shape, although I haven't played there much this year. I've been a member there for over 15 years and I haven't mastered the course yet, in fact I probably hold the record for the most times to have packed in after 9 holes in a competition. Go for a game and try it yourself.

Muckhart G.C on the internet, this is good to see. I have played at Muckhart ever since I moved to Dollar some 11 years ago. Even though I am currently studying at university in Alabama USA I am still a member of Muckhart. Muckhart having just opened up a new nine holes, making it in to a 27 hole complex is set for big things in the future. These new holes shall open up early next spring and shall be well worth a game if your in that part of the country. I look forward myself to playing it next season and hopefully setting the new course record. I can't wait.
