Location/Description:
Musselburgh Links, The Old Golf Course is the World's oldest playing golf course. The links are unique in that little has changed here for hundreds of years. Golf was being played regularly on the Links in 1672, although Mary Queen of Scots is said to have had a round in 1567. The Open Championship has been played at the Old Course on six occasions between 1874 and 1891 in rotation with Prestwick and St Andrews. The course was also the venue for the first ever competition for Lady golfers in 1811 and the Scotish Amateur Championship of 1898. The Old Course was the orignal home of four great golf clubs, Royal Musselburgh, Royal Burgess, The Bruntsfeild Golfing Society and The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. There is a thriving club in existance today, Musselburgh Old Course Golf Club, whose historic Club House is based in the former club house of The Royal Burgess Golf Club. More hisorical information is available from the Course web site.
