played weds 21/may 08 course steeped in history ,oldest in world we played it just 2 say we had, more of a council course now but great value we only played 9 and that was enough,1 hole had abit of gourse in as the flag and another had a fence post in, shame really after who has played here, our round cost 5.50 on the 241s great value, big nev had started snap hooking and dad was more on race course than the golf course think that may of had something 2 do with the flat cap wore which made him look like a jockey,

well what can i say!? the oldest known course in the world but the race track around the outside sort of spoiled it a little bit for me. the course its self is well layed out with some nice little holes, especially if your playing down wind. coming back into the same wind makes the course play completely different though. its a true links type test of golf with think rough but well maintained greens.

the starter guy before hand is very helpful and tells you a little bit of the history of the course which only enhances your game.

a must play for any "true" golfer. at only £10 its well worth it just to say you've played it!!!

(the only reason im giving a 4 for general facilities is that there wasn't a club house or anywhere to have a drink afterwards)

I just had to play it, the oldest playing course in the world. A nice course with some testing shots especially when the wind is blowing hard at you from holes 5 to 9. The first 4 had a tail wind so good opportunity's for pars and birdies. Holes 1 and 4 my favourites but all good in there own right. Starter was very friendly and knowledgeable before the round which is always nice to see.

A first rate experience and a delightful course.

The atmosphere is richly infused with the memories of Old Tom Morris & the greats - the empty stands of the Racecourse look out onto the course, seeming to add to the sense of glories past.

The course itself is a gentle, but far frome trivial, links test suitable for all abilities. For a high-handicapper such as myself, one of the joys of links golf is that, with a following breeze and favourable bounce, a well-struck drive will travel huge distances. Hence my joy in reaching the 400-or-so yard 4th with a drive and 9-iron - a feat I've never before achieved !! (The subsequent 3-putt quashed my dreams of going pro).

The 4th and 5th were my favourites, the former a dog-leg left with the green well-protected by bunkers and a swale, the latter a well-bunkered par 3 back into the breeze. But few if any weak holes.

The condition of the course was very acceptable, and good value too for this taste of true golfing history, although the facilities are little more than a starters hut - you pay your money and it's straight onto the first tee.

All in all, a most enjoyable test which should be a must on any itinerary of the area.

What a delightful 9 holes. The friendliest welcome and a super course in top condition. A must if playing the great East Lothian courses. Mrs Formans (The fourth) was my particular favourite but there was not a weak hole. Play it if you can.

Musselburgh Old Course Links is the oldest playable golf surface left in the world. Mary Queen of Scots was recorded playing here in 1565.
