The Nairn Golf Club Player Reports

Ian Brown (Scotland) 04/04/07

We were talking to a golfer at Nairn Dunbar who mentioned the green fee was only £30 during March so we called them on the off chance and it turned out we had the course almost to ourselves. Everyone at the club could not have been friendlier. As for the course itself it was in tremendous condition apart from the slightly sandy greens but you expect that kind of thing over the winter months. The start is particualrly tough and if the wind had been a bit stronger and into your face the first 7 holes would be incredibly hard. The best holes on the back 9 are the uphill 13th (SI 1), the downhill 14th (One of the best par 3s in Scotland) and the tough 16th with the burn and bunkers in front of the green. This is definately one of the best courses in Scotland and if you do get the chance to play here do not turn it down.

Played Nairn on sunday March 11th 2007. As a St Andrews Student, me and 5 others went North for a 3 day trip including Brora and Dornoch. Nairn was definitely the higlight as, though winter fee prices the tees had been moved back the week before. The course was chalenging on a breezy day, and great fun.

Nairn is a great golf course. The wilderness of a links course combined with the civilasation of the scots. I had the pleasure to play it together with a girl from California and the swedish and american style of golf was a erfect match in all respects. We both made a par at the 18:th. Wish I can come back in 1999 for the Walker Cup. If nos as a player beeing a spectator will do fine. per engstroem

When I return to Scotland, this will be a must on the itinerary. In 1994, we played at Nairn for a few days, and I chose to remain in Nairn to play an extra day, skipping a tee time at Dornoch! I preferred Nairn to the links at Dornoch, and we all know that Dornoch is one of the very best in the world. I challenge anyone to find a tougher 1,2,3 & 5 holes to start a course. Excellent condition, and friendly staff and members. Modern clubhouse facilities seemed out of character for the usual Scottish fare. Excellent accomodation and food at the THE LINKS HOTEL.

We were on our way to Dornoch but decided no time that day and followed a sign to the links and found Nairn. It was a memorable day. Started cool and overcast then watched the storm come up the firth bringing wind, rain and hail. The back nine was then played in brilliant sunshine. We were following a company outing, the company was Scotish & Newcastle, so we received a wee dram after the rain stopped. A truly memorable day on a great course. It ruined Dornoch for me the next day! Another one I tell all my Canadian friends about!
