The North Berwick Golf Club Player Reports

Played here for the first time since 2000. If this isn't the most fun golf experience in the world, it's clearly in the top three. The course has absolutely everything: incredible views, supreme shot making opportunities, excellent conditions, funny nuances, extremely friendly staff, and an outstanding pro shop. Oh, and it has the most copied par-3 in the world (#15 Redan).
I could write a book about how great a place North Berwick is but would run out of paper. If you come to Scotland you HAVE to play here.

I was lucky enough to play on this course on Bank Holiday Monday. We got there quite late (5.00pm) and Sam was very accommodating to tee off just before a competition.
I'd heard alot about this course and was not disappointed. The views of the starting holes are fantastic but because there were very strong coastal winds it did interrupt my play at least.
Although it was a warm day we were not prepared for the 9 holes back so if you go out take plenty of warm clothing and hats.
A fantastic course but the weather did spoil it for me.

I had the pleasure of playing North Berwick on the 23rd May 2008, from th minute we got there we were made to feel welcome from the staff in the shop to Sam the starter who made you feel relaxed and shared a few tips. What can i say about the course what hasn't been said before... nothing i don't think, it's a beautiful, well maintained course and the views are amazing.Even though the wind wasn't blowing a gale it still played a major factor on every hole, even on the greens. We are definatly returning next year as all out party (9) were very impressed.Even though the clubhouse is not yet ready the portacabins are better than alot of the clubhouses i've been in. A must play if your in the area and if you want to stop nearby you won't find a friendlier B&B than across from the course at The Belhaven.

WOW!!! what an unbeleivable golf course! this is now the 3rd time ive played this course and it is still as thrilling now as the 1st time i played it!
i have to give top marks to the green keepers as we played on the 17th october and the greens, fairway and bunkers were immaculate!
im not going to rant and rave about the course - all im going to say is if your wanting a special days golfing experience, play the west course at north berwick - i guarantee you wont be disappointed!
hopefully i will be back shortly!

Myself and two friends have recently returned from playing golf once again in Scotland .
Three courses were played - Craigelaw , North Berwick & Gullane No.2. Each course was very different and all in their own way challenging . Its no mistake when I mention it all here as my personal favourite was North Berwick ( although we played this couse in the worst weather over the weekend ) it was still by far my favourite !!
It has an old course ( st.andrews ) feel to it , but as previously menionted all without the "hairs n graces" . What was most pleasing about the course was its layout , different length of holes and the superb quality of the greens . There is short & long par fours , varied length of par 3's and all with rough that was fair but challenging , my favourite by the 12th over the wall !!.
I would not hesitate in returning back to play as knowing the course now I would certainly play some holes differently ( ie the blind holes ) .
Its well worth the money , but with this said Gullane No.2 & Craigelaw are also worth mentioning as these offered very good rounds also .
Craigelaw felt more American with difficult tiered undulating greens , Gullane No'2 with its punishing rough !!
We had a fab weekend topped off by staying very nearby in the Nether Abbey ( very good hotel ) and an excellent Indian restaurant on the high street "The Tiger" ... best curry we've had .
Overall a top ranking , actually better than the St.andrews trip last year by a whisker ... and only spolit by my shoddy play , the weather at North Berwick and the clubhouse not serving food after 6.30 .

Returned (March 2007) for a second bite of the North Berwick cherry. This track is memorable and we all agreed was the most interesting and challenging of the trip. Special mention to the superb starter Sam Fox (not of page 3 fame!) who gave us a very warm and courteous welcome before we teed off, and then another warm welcome on the back of the 18th green. this is simple but effective and other clubs should take a leaf out of NB's book. the welcome makes you feel special and adds to the day. the day itself had a 'wee zephyr' blowing. for wee zephyr read force 8-9 gale. it was VERY difficult but it made it all the more fun. i scored 29 points, and in those conditions- was proud to do so. i have never seen a full loaded powakaddy possessed by the wind before to shoot off down the fairway unaided at full speed -the wind was so strong, nor have i hit a nine iron 190 yards before or a driver 140 yards. the unique in and out layout of the course means 9 against and normally 9 with the wind (unless god forbid the tide changes and its 18 against). cannot say enough about the course- top quality and the run of six holes on the back nine upto 17 are as good as it gets. recommended highly.
