Played on a windy day in July, but then all days are windy in Peterhead. Loved the course. Not easy, but a memorable track. Easy to find your way around the first time out. Wonderful links at a good price. Members and staff make you feel like they must think you are someone special. But i think they are just that friendly. Do not miss playing this course if you are in this corner of Scotland. Make the time, you will not be sorry.

What a surprise we had here. When we arrived, the place really didn't look like much and smelled of dead fish. That opinion quickly changed out on the course. THis is really a fun track and the wind was really up when we played it. The fairways have a ton of roll so this was the ultimate links experience. We talked to some of the members after we were done and, by then, we understood why they talk so highly of this track. I'd definitely recommend playing Peterhead.

A photograph in a magazine inspired me to rise early one Saturday morning in 2001 and drive to Peterhead. The wind was near gale force and ahead of me were locals who described the day as a bit windy, it is said if they notice the wind then it must be strong. Golf that day was a hugely demanding task and one that got the better of me. This links course starts with an interesting and demanding first drive alongside a stretch of water, which I presumed to be a river as the sea was clearly some distance away on my right. The 1st green cut into the hill made this a very tricky opener. The following 7 holes are reasonable if not particularly exciting. The course really kicks in at the ninth and holes 11 and 12, which run between two huge sand dunes, are outstanding. Both are slightly uphill with 11 being a well-bunkered par 5 and 12 being a very fine and challenging par 4. The 16th from its high tee is a stunningly attractive hole as good as any in the country, don’t be tempted to go for the green from the tee though as the string of bunkers across the fairway are waiting to catch out the overly ambitious golfer. Remember to wait for the bell before driving at the 17th as the sunken green on this short and quirky par 4 is within reach. Did I enjoy my round? Yes, the course and in particular the back nine is very enjoyable, if on that day the weather proved to demanding for my meager skills. Will I come back? Certainly, I’d love to try again in less difficult conditions. Any other impressions? I liked the new clubhouse and the friendly welcome.

A course with an odd assortment of holes -- some routine, some better-than-average, and several that are outstanding. The inward nine is by far the better of the two nines, played mostly among the giant sand dunes that line both sides of the fairways. Among the first eight holes, I counted only one truly good hole (no. 6, a 157-yd. par 3). But No. 9 is a fun par 4, and the course really gets going on the inward nine. No. 10, 11, and 12 are simply great, as is No. 16, and No. 17 is one of those quirky, only-in-Scotland holes that you'll long remember. The course is a truly historic one; it's the 18th oldest golf club in the world, dating back to 1841, and is far removed geographically from the other centers of the game's beginnings. An enjoyable round.
