Polkemmet Golf Course Player Reports

I played the course this morning and it's not too boggy at the moment despite some heavy overnight rain.
For a public coarse it's not in decent enough condition. It's lacking a little in variety though with only the one par 3 and three long holes (two par 5's and a 460 yard par 4) back to back. The par 3 hole is quite interesting as, despite only being 112 yards, you can only see part of the green through a gap in the trees (which are either side of a stream that has to be carried). I hit a decent enough shot that couldn't have missed the green by much but still lost the ball because once the ball drops behind the trees it's impossible to see where it's gone unless it's onto the centre of the green. I'd been considering taking my wife and 9 year old son there for their first game on a proper golf course, however that hole would be pretty much unplayable for them.
Not a bad little course though and great value at £5.40 for 9 holes or £9.40 for 18.

this is an excellent 9 hole course, i play it every week and find it a good test of golf.
i play a lot of other courses and always love the feeling of stepping on the first tee here.
the course does have a drainage problem but in high summer there id no better 9 holes around.
greenkeepers do an excellent job and are always trying to improvr the course if the council let them.

Played 19th April 2005. The course is very wet; the last week has been raining but it appears to be sited on heavy clay soil. The fairways have a large amount of moss on them and thus the water has difficulty in draining away. The greens are currently very sparse of grass and are being overseeded. As a result they are quite quick and putt more like a links course than a parkland course.
There are a number of holes where the green is raised. In addition some of the greens are large in area and can be as much as 3 clubs difference front to back. You therefore have to be accurate with your clubbing to make sure you do not have the possibility of 3 putting.
The course is 9 holes and if you are in the area in the summer with no time to play 18 holes this will probably be in better condition and worth a try.

I STARTED PLAYING GOLF ABOUT A YEAR AGO, I FOUND THIS COURSE A GREAT COURSE FOR BEGINNERS LIKE MYSELF, ITS NOT A HARD COURSE BUT AT THE SAME TIME ITS NOT EASY, I FIND THE 9TH HOLE DAUNTING BUT EXCITING AS YOU COULD WIN URE MATCH OR QUITE EASILY LOSE AT THE SAME TIME

Very nice coarse ( BUT WHY NOT ADD 9 MORE HOLES)
Tony Ingarfield (Scotland) 24/09/04
I started playing golf regularly because of the excellent pay and play course. I can only echo the other comment in that the course has been in great condition every time I have played it, especially considering the "hackers", myself included, who go around it. Good value for money aswell. It is a shame it's not an 18 hole course.
