Prestonfield Golf Club Player Reports
Neal Stewart (Scotland) 31/05/05
This is a fairly flat parkland course. It is generally bordered by trees and many fairways have trees down one side or the other. The 2 par 5's are fairly sraightforward 3 shotters. the 4 par 3's consist of 3 of about 150 yards and 1 of about 170 yards. The par 4's are of various lengths but there are 5 of over 430 yards which can prove a real test of your shotmaking ability. The greens are fairly small although some are two tiered which can test your putting stroke if you are on the wrong level.
the main difficulty at Prestonfield is the second cut of rough which is approx 2 to 3 inches and generally causes you to simply pitch back to the fairway - invariably a shot lost. The successful player at the course will be those who can keep the ball straight and therefore be playing from the short stuff.
The clubhouse has been recently refurbished and is therefore in excellent condition with ample room. The bar/dining area on the first floor looks directly towards Arthur's Seat and on a clear day you can see walkers hiking up it. A fantastic view.
Overall a good and tough course with excellent facilities which is well worth playing.
