Rothesay Golf Club Player Reports

Being urged to play this course by my golf mates, I finally travelled to Rothesay (nice town !!) and this golf course. The first hole is the steepest fairway I have ever seen. The 2xx yards par 4 is deceptive. It is a much longer hole. Thankfully, the rest of the course was not that hilly. But hilly enough to offer a great challenge. The greens was superb. The fairways was also good, despite of twelve hours long soaking (torrential rain) the day before.

The par 3, 8th hole is (in)famous and I found that hole very challenging. So was the other holes too. A couple of holes did not live up to my expectations, but I do not mind. The local golf pro is a credit to the club. His pro-shop is also well stocked and the changing facilities and the club house is good. I do miss a strokesaver or a map for this course due to the many blind holes on this course. That is the only negative thing I can say about this course.

Rothesay offer a superb round of golf for all handicappers and I highly recommend it.

I have played this course on a few occassions now. It represents extremely good value for money as it is a course that has always been in good condition when I have been there. There are some very tricky holes and overall the course is well worth a visit. There are some great views to be had on a clear day, straight up the Firth of Clyde to the Island and Highlands. The course is hilly in places.

Having played this beautiful and challenging course and experienced the several different climate changes as you walk around in a single round I can honestly say that some of my best and most enjoyable rounds have been here, the last hole in particular when I had a Birdie with people watching from the Bar was memorable!

rothesay golf club is a testing little course i have been a member now for 3 years and have reduced my handicap from 36 to 16 on this course.

On a good day with no wind and rain the course is very short even the longest par five the sixteenth is reachable in two but on a windy cold rainy day the usual weather for this area the course is really long if the wind is coming from the north nearly every hole is bad and you could end up with high scores.

I must add that the greenkeepers on the couse are really good because they work all year round getting the course up to scratch for the approaching season and continue to make the couse more and more challenging for the visiting guests to the island.

I am a former member of Rothesay Golf Club now residing in Canada I still play the course about once a year,Rothesay is short if you look at the yardage however it is extremely hilly with small greens local knowledge is a must if you are going to shoot a low score the par of 69 is a good score and if the wind blows you had better know how to keep the ball low.Rothesay Golf Course is built high on a hill and the view from the top standing on the 5th or 12th greens is unequaled anywhere in Scotland .The members are extremely friendly, and it is never difficult to get a game they like to play quickly as do most Scots and a round will last about 3hrs. followed by some warm hospitality.Rothesay Golf Club is over 100 yrs.old and celebrated there Centenary in 1992.
