Had an enjoyable round here, the only links course on Skye (and there's only one other small 9-hole course on the whole island, set inland in the grounds of a hotel). This is certainly a very picturesque course, and not too challenging at that. First 5 holes fairly flat, up-and-down affairs but improves for the final four, with a few more interesting holes to finish. Overall, fairly forgiving for those whose drives aren't wholly accurate, but testing enough with tight greens, which were in good condition. I played on a remarkably still, dry day and I imagine it could be pretty exposed on a windy day, which may well make it more difficult. Reasonable value at £13 for 9 holes. Definitely worth a look if you're in the area, but don't think i'd go out my way to include it on a tour of Scottish seaside courses... (NOT a criticism of here, more a reflection of the quality available elsewhere).

Flew in from Dallas, Texas. Ferry over from Mallaig. Arrived at course on June 22nd at about noon. Manager was very nice and we played nine holes with no porblems. The course was beautiful, and the rain missed us. Very well kept and easy to walk. Great location with 2500 foot mountains rising up all around us. A great value for Scottish golf. Recommend to anyone who wants to go a little out of the way. First Scottish golf for my 15 year old daughter. My second time, since a 1980 military Ryder Cup format with the Royal Air Force, at RAF Leuchars, across the bay from St. Andrews. Isle of Skye has better views than any other course I have played in Scotland. Well worth the effort.

The Isle of Skye golf club is a small, friendly club situated at Sconser about 12 miles from Portree. Despite being only 9 holes it is a nice test of golf. I would recommend that you play it between April and October as outside these times it is normally vety wet on Skye and the course is quite poor during the winter.

By far the hardest hole is the 2nd - a monster par 4 that plays about 450yds, normally into the wind. Out-of-bounds is a constant menace on the left of this hole and it takes two great shots to reach the small green. Most of the putting surfaces are very small so despite the short length of the course it is still a challenge. There are 3 par 3s and 6 par 4s on each nine and different tees for many of the holes on the back nine too. The greens were consistently good when I played.

Golfers of all abilities will enjoy this course as there are plenty of birdie chances and the green fees are fair too. It's an excellent way to spend a summer's afternoon and you'll probably be tempted to go round the nine holes more than twice. Pack your camera to record the spectacular views and make sure you stop for the home-made soup afterwards - not to be missed! The clubhouse is modest but extremely welcoming.

Will Critchlow (England) 19/02/04

I played this course late last summer in windy and changeable conditions, which at least kept away the midges (who can make golf here unbearable in cool, calm conditions). The course is an unusual mixture of links and parkland, in exceptional condition for its location. It may look short, but none of the par fours can be driven in one, and long rough, difficult winds and small/narrow greens and fairways will test you more than many longer courses. The best holes include the 1st ( sweeping downhill over a burn with sea views), the 2nd/11th ( long dogleg par four right on the coast), the 7th(uphill par three), the 9th/18th(uphill with an incredible two tier fairway) and the 14th, played from atop a small hill. The 6th along the coast is hardest, as it is usually played into a gale. This course provided a refreshing round played against a stunning backdrop of mountains and sea. Highly recommended.

Although only nine holes this is a very enjoyable experience with views that are quite unbelievable and change at each hole- the whole north coast of Skye, the Cuillins and the Sutherland mountains. The course is well maintained and three of the holes have double tees which are so different that they completely change the hole on the second "nine".

Certainly a more memorable experience than you might expect

I had the privalage of playing a round at Sconser on the Isle of Skye, with a close friend in WINTER. The nine holes are literaly right on the shoreline and on the morning we played the wind was such that we could hardly address the ball let alone hit it in something like the direction desired. On the morning in question we arrived early at the course 6:30 AM and to our astonishment we were met by the local monthly medal crowd, who gladly invited us to take part as a way around the rules in order for us to be able to play at that time. We were astonished because the wind and rain were so persistant and heavy. Overall this course has got to be one of the most challenging yet beutiful I have ever encountered. Seals were making there way across some of the fairways as we waited to drive!
