My wife and I played this course in July, 2005 during a trip where we played about 20 courses, including "premier courses" like Gullane, North Berwick, Carnoustie, Cruden Bay, Muirfield, Kingsbarns, Ladybank, etc. But we both agreed that Stonehaven was the most fun, scenic and enjoyable of all the courses we played. The spectacular views, unusual holes and routing and friendly clubhouse make for an unforgettable day. We even saw whales breaching off the 15th tee-box. Check this course out, you won't be dissappointed!

What a hidden gem my husband and I discovered on our trip to stonehaven golf club. Breathtaking views and some tricky holes make it a must for any golfer!

What a thrill to play the "hidden gem." I played three times this September and enjoyed every huff and puff up those hills. The cliffs are ingeniously used to harass and torture the golfer. The views are stunning and the price is great. I strongly advise others to spend time on this course. Cardiovascular fitness will be tested, for sure.

I played this course in August of this year and it was a real treat. It is a very well-maintained

course that is truly fun to play, although I swear that every hole after the first one was uphill. It was tough walking for a Florida boy like me! There are some quite magnificent views starting with number one which is a downhill par 4 to a green that sits on a cliff with the North Sea behind it. If you are in the area of Aberdeen, don't miss this one.

Is there a more enjoyable round of golf in Scotland to be had than one at Stonehaven? Doubt it. Others are more challenging, or awe-inspiring, or truer to the links origin of the sport. But Stonehaven is great, great fun -- the dramatic clifftop views, the jaw-dropping carries on the par 3's, the impossible-to-hold slanted fairways. And, oh yes, the commuter trains whizzing through the heart of the course in the middle of your backswing. And some of the holes run perpendicular to each other. But so what? The course (summer '99) was in terrific shape, and nearly every shot was a visual feast, from the elevated tee shot on No. 1 to the cemetery just beyond the 18th green. And the century-old clubhouse is simply a treasure -- one of the great clubhouses to be found in Scotland. Those who play in and around Aberdeen and its championship courses would do well to make the short trip south to Stonehaven. If you can't have fun here, you can't have fun anywhere.

Tee box one requires that the golfer hit a drive directly out toward the North sea which fills the horizon. Could well be the most beautiful setting for a golf course in Scotland or elsewhere. The North sea beats at the base of the 100 metre cliffs which line much of the 150 year old course. The clubhouse has an unrestricted view out over the course and sea. When the wind is up, some of the uphill par threes at 160 yards are unreachable with a well hit 3 iron.
