Played this course at the last minute. Only £10 (Winter price I think) and definitely worth the money, short course, but interesting to play. Small greens make the course fairly tough in places, but generally quite relaxing. There are some serious hills around and so shots can roll all over the place. Nice views of Edinburgh. Would rather play Braid Hills which is similar but slightly more interesting.

Swanston is a great course to play, even the par threes are challenging, because of the accuracy required to land on the greens, You have to cross over gorse bushes on one, Get over a gully on another, then finally you have a elavated tee off looking down to a inviting green, but with bunkers on either side and rough at the rear of the green you have to be accurate, and that is only three of the par threes.
But all round a great course to play, And in the clubhouse the staff and members could not have been more welcoming.

SWANSTON IS A HARD COURSE TO PLAY IF YOU DONT NO THE RUN
OF THE BALL WITH ALL THE DIFFERENT SLOPES, ONCE YOU GET
USED TO IT , IT IS REALLY CHALLENGING, THE GREENS ARE
REALLY FAST AND IN MINT CONDITION, THE 15TH HOLE PAR 3
IS BY FAR THE BEST OF ALL HITTING FROM HIGH UP DOWN ONTO
THE GREEN, WORTH A VISIT ANYTIME OF THE YEAR AS NORMAL
GREENS ARE JUST ABOUT ALL YEAR ROUND DUE TO GOOD DRAINAGE.

Swanston golf course is certainly a challenge with many nice and demanding holes. The 15th hole gives you a great view of Edinburgh i wont forget.

For the information of future players at Swanston Golf Course:
Swanston is situated on the lower slopes of the Pentland Hills and has one of the best par 3 holes in the Lothians.
Trolleys and motorised carts are available to hire.
Visitors are always welcome to play a round at this challenging course - and perhaps follow it up with a meal and a drink at the clubhouse.
Swanston is a very friendly and accommodating club and looks forward to welcoming visitors from all over the world.
PS - The sheep have hung up their clubs and retired from the course!!

I am originally from Edinburgh, as I moved to Canada 16 years ago as a 4 year old. I was in town in '91 and had the oppurtunity to play Swanston. It is definetly a course I will not forget. The sheep on the course was priceless. One hole on the back nine I won't forget was the one you are walking up a 60 degree hill. Exhausting! I have told my friends about Swanston and we had a good laugh. Thanks for the memories. Alan Simpson, Winnipeg, Man. Canada
