Tarbat Golf Club Player Reports
Michael Black (England) 09/08/07
I have fond memories of playing this course back in 1991 at the wrong end of September. Best compact course I've ever played. The greens were inexcellent condition. This little course is a must for anybody doing the rounds in the far north of Scotland.
I do recall putting four quid in an envelope and dropping it into the honesty box, being the only player on the course that day.

Stage 2 of Scotland 2006 and fresh from finishing Gleneagles Queen's 150 miles away the night before at about 8-30pm, this was another unscheduled stop on the tour.
You could almost call Tarbat a community course – it's one of those courses that is there purely because golf in Scotland is a way of life and de facto any outpost of population must have a golf course.
This nine-hole layout is primarily links terrain but a couple of the holes play more like parkland, even though there aren't any trees around. Highlights for me were the semi-blind 6th, the driveable par 4 8th, which has some crazy bumps and rolls on the fairway and a great raised green (good practice for Dornoch), and the tee shot at the 9th over the corner of the stone wall which felt testing but fun.
While not fast the greens were at least consistent. Overall, though, Tarbat was totally unpretentious and a good way to warm up for the challenges of the week ahead.
Young B recovered from topping his opening tee shot twenty yards to go round in +4 and take the honours.
But tomorrow it's Tain and the fun really starts...

This 9 hole layout is not next to the sea but has a really linksy feel and the views across the Dornoch and Moray Firths take your breath away. The course was in lovely condition with firm hard greens and unbusy which made for a great evenings golf.
