Whilst travelling from Devon to Edinburgh for this years Open championship at Muirfield we took the opportunity to play a couple of courses in the border region en route.Being first time visitors to this part of the country we simply took pot luck from the numerous golfing guides available.Without doubt, we certainly got lucky with this one and I would recommend it to anyone.A welcoming atmosphere was received and we were on the first tee within 20 minutes. The 1st is a par 3 which I shall always remeber for hitting a 7-iron to 6 inches from the hole. Not bad for starters! The course itself was in very good condition with a mixture of parkland & heathland holes. The best hole on the course is the 15th.A drive of 250 yards is required to reach the dogleg of the fairway with a sizeable area of marshland on the left. You are then left with a 200 yard second shot to the green.A stream runs up the left and a railway line to the right!Straightness more than length is undoubtedly an asset and the course is set amongst the stunning scenery of the Scottish borders. The locals made us feel very welcome in the bar afterwards and couldn't have been more helpful with hints and tips for the rest of our holiday in Edinburgh. The clubhouse also has many acknowledgements to Andrew Coltart who played his golf here throughout his boys and youths period.Great value - Enjoy!!

We played two rounds at the course 12/5/01. We received a very warm welcome from both staff and members alike. The course is the most picturess I have ever played, along with some very testing holes as well. I would return anyday!

We played Thornhill on 19/3/00. Our welcome was very friendly and we found the course to be in excellent condition. There were some very interesting holes and course management was very important.

Excellent value (even better using 2 Fore 1).

We would willingly return.
