Torrance House Golf Club Player Reports

Torrance House is a very good municipal course.

Although a modern course, it has the feeling of being much older as it was largely created using existing mature parkland.

There are almost no poor holes and a number of memorable ones - including the excellent 10th, 16th 18th holes - and there's a good mix of 5 par 3s, 8 4's and 5 par 5s.

Perhaps one minor criticism is that it isn't perhaps as challenging as some courses from the yellow pegs, but the extra 350 yards off the medals would make it fairly tough.

The course is usually in very good condition and is a credit to the council that they keep it in good nick whilst green fees remain modest.

The biggest problem with Torrence House is the Kafka-esque booking system, whereby South Lanarkshire residents are given preferrential tee times. You have to give address details and be logged in to "the system" in order to play. With all this, and the repeated phone calls to the permenantly engaged line (there is only one starter) it can be a victory in itself getting a sensible tee time in the summer.

It's worth it though, it's a good course.

Without doubt the best Council run course in the area. At just over £10 a round it is superb value.

Some very challenging holes, the par 5's especially. The 4th with it's sloping fairway and dogleg, the 6th with it's long drive down through the trees and burn that awaits any short 2nd shots and the 17th with it's blind 2nd shot to the green. The short 18th is also an excellent way to finish.

As a young lad I was introduced to the delights of golf at Torrance House and yesterday I played the course once again for the first time in over thirty years.

In this day and age I was amazed to find a green fee of only £10 which, on reflection, represents the best value for golfing money I've had for years. Although I know that the course is extremely busy at most times, I thought it was in excellent condition. The majority of the tees were in good nick as were the greens. The mowers were in the process of attending to the fairways and the smell of newly-cut grass simply added to the pleasure of this reunion.

The course is not the most challenging but neither should anyone anticipate an easy ride. There are enough demanding drives and blind shots to make even the best golfers think twice.

I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to Torrance House Golf Club - I will not be waiting a further thirty years before returning!

fantastic course, when i seen price for round i expected a usual council course, but this one is well kept and decent length with 5 par 5,s be careful of the par 3,s the 8th says 180 yards and doesnt look it,you will use a 150 to 160 yard club and fall short

ive been a member of torrance for 5 years now. played many courses in glasgow and surrounding areas but still i pine for my favourite little gem. the only draw back is its still council owned . sometimes very difficult for members trying to arrange a bounce game at short notice.much needed work is now taking place to soggy fairways & greens.but it has more than it fairshare of beautiful holes & the club house staff are pleasant

Torrance House is one of the finest public course's in strathclyde , Set in the middle of a country park its also an ideal day out for all the family.\r\nSome of the holes are a dream to play , especially the par three 18th , Standing about a hundred feet above this short hole can be quiet intimidating if the pin is near the front
