I played this course twice in Oct 2006 - once with a work colleague who hadn't played for nearly six years so it was a real baptism of fire for him (his lost balls ran into double figures!!) and again with my son (aged 8). On both occasions we hired a buggy which proved invaluable as it's hilly and there are some long walks between green and next tee box. On both visits it was very wet and on the second visit the pro gave us a discounted grren fee because of the weather. The weather didn't spoil our enjoyment though and the course is a proper test for golfers of all ability. Nearly every hole has a water hazard of some description and if you find the rough you'll be lucky to find your ball. I learnt from my first visit that course management is the trick here. Although it's tempting to go for the big hit it usually means you end up in trouble, especially in wet conditions. The first hole, a dog-leg par 5 gives you a taste of things to come. It's tempting on the 3rd to go straight for the pin which looks easily reachable. Trouble is there's some thick rough in the way which if you find, as I did, you've little chance of seeing your ball again. Better to take a mid iron and play safe down the fairway. The 14th is a tough par 5 which has a raised green that's hard to hold your ball on. The signature hole is the 15th which has a waterfall cliff face backdrop. I birdied it on my first visit but made a complete pig's ear of it second time round. The finishing hole must be one of the toughest anywhere with trouble everywhere (my chum lost 3 balls on this hole alone). This is a good course to play and we stayed in the hotel which has excellent accommodation although the food and drinks are pricey. Will definitely play again when in the area.

A Really testy course as it was built as a championship course when it oppened but as it is a very wet course in the winter months it never exedded its expectations. But it is a really nice sceneric course and you need to be in full concentration all the time if you want to go round in a low score. The signature hole is the 15th hole and is a 147 yard par 3 and you play over a river into a face of a quarry where the waterfall runs down. Other good holes is the 10th which is a 337 yard par 4 where you are starting from an elavated tee and shotting down onto the green, Long hitters can get their in one but there is a nasty burn 230 yards from the tee and yes youve guessed it, its a popular place. The unlucky 13th hole is one of the hardest par 3s i think you will play. its just over 200 Yards over a large pond onto a very small green where there are large bunkers on either side. To make it harder the wind is normally into you so if your a pansy like me then the safest option is to lay up just before the pond. These are just a few holes to point out but Westerwood Does have plent of nice and challanging holes and you do need to be on your A Game and that is by hitting your drives straight because there are alot of holes that are really narrow. One other thing is that there is a hotel there if your looking for somewhere to stay the night. The hotel also has a large swimming pool and spa, Gym etc. if you want to go for something to eat before the game then the restuarnt serves top quality food as it is a 4 star hotel. You can sit out on the balcony while eating and watching people teeing off at the 1st or fininshing the ninth or 18th. There is also a large practice area where there is a putting green and a chipping range and an iring range. To finish it off you can hire trolleys or golf Buggys. I recomend Westerwood Golf Club as it is challanging but enjoyable for every level of Golfer.

Interesting course but definately for the straight hitters. The rough was brutal and numerous golf balls required. An enjoyable and extremely testing round with some great scenery in between. My favourites were the long 14th and the short 15th holes. Well worth a visit.

A championship course in every sence .Every shot in the book is required as holes wind up down and round the hills over which it is built.A stadium designed course with many of the holes set between spectator banks. Numerous burns and ponds at landing areas and in front of greens. The condition was not too good when I played it but a new company has taken over and should be better now.Definatly worth a visit but take plenty balls unless you can hit very very straight.
