Played course at the beginning of June 2008. The course itself was excellent with some very tight driving holes with plenty of water and well placed bunkers. You would need to bring you’re “A” game to gave a good round here. Only a couple of negatives, some of the tees were in a bit of state, not what you would expect from a top course like this. And almost every bunker I passed or went in had not been raked by the last visitor. Even watched a couple of guys in the four ball (members) in front of us walk in to a couple, play and straight out again without raking

For those who might be discouraged by some of the earlier comments regarding the Swailend course, please note that most of the young trees have matured greatly in the last couple of years and are now in play - although there are still some protected trees, the blue staked areas have disappeared and are no free drops to the side of the fairway. The rough within the plantation areas has generally been neatly trimmed so although you may have to chip out sideways, there is little problem in finding your ball. As a result the course in now much more playble and enjoyable.

I played both courses with a group of friends on Friday 13th June 2003 (unlucky for some). The Hawkshill course was the highlight of the day. This course is beautifully laid out with water featuring on several holes. It is reminiscent of Rosemount, Ladybank etc and demands straight hitting from the tee. It is not a grip it and rip it type of a course and even high handicappers will be forced on occasion to use irons from the tee.A very impressive course (probably one of the best I have played)and one I will most certainly return to when I am next in the area. The Swailend course is a different kettle of fish. It is a more exposed course and the blue-staked areas were a nightmare. If your ball went into one of these areas then you were allowed a free drop but there is no point in looking for your ball as they are impossible to find!

Played in the club Open on 21-SEP-2002 and found the

Hawkshill course to be a pretty tough track with lots

of tricky holes - trees, sand and water coming into

play at many of them (to my cost!).

You would never know this was a recently founded club,

such is the maturity of the course. Staff in the pro

shop were very friendly as were staff in the clubhouse.

Worth a visit.

Played both courses on the same day in the summer this year. Like Letham Grange a great facility for a days golf, although can be tiring so hire a buggy! Hawkshill is tight and you must play for position off the tee. The 9th a great wee hole with water down the right from an elevated tee. The Swailend Course is not long opened and you are not allowed to retrieve ball sfrom the many tree plantations where the ball is not deemed lost, therefore open your shoulders and pack plenty balls as this means you can hit anywhere and get a free drop! Great clubhouse.

Being an x-member of Newmacher golf club I know of the excelent set up that they have there.Newmacher offers two great courses both being of par 72.There are several water hazards and tight tree lined fairways always leading up to challenging greens.Great test of golf and I personally recomend that you try it if you happen to be in the area!
