Strathlene Golf Club Player Reports
Harald Hallen (Sweden) 26/07/07
This was the fifth stop on a golf tour in July 2007 by four Swedish golfers.
We had not reserved a tee time in advance. The day in question we were moving from a hotel in Tain to a location closer to Aberdeen, and we selected Strathlene because we wanted to play a clifftop type course. As it turned out, there were very few people out playing and we had no problem getting on to the course.
We found the layout to be a mix of some rather bland holes and some very interesting ones. We particularly liked some of the holes on the front nine that run alongside the cliffs - hole 6 ('Black Craig') in particular. We also liked the finishing holes (16, 17, 18) on the other side of the road, which played over some tricky gullies.
The fairways were a bit soggy due to heavy rains in the preceding days, but apart from that they were in good condition. The greens were good too.
The clubhouse is not very inspiring, but at least it offers the basic amenities.

Played this course Sunday 23 July for the fourth or fifth time since moving up here 18 months ago. Always a joy to come back to this small and friendly club. This clifftop links may not be the most testing in the area, but there is plenty to keep you on your toes. The course is always beautifully presented, regardless of the time of year and the views over the Moray Firth are stunning. Another bonus is that the club is happy to accept most two for one vouchers, so you can play for as little as £10.
