'Young P' (England) 27/08/07
The penultimate day of Scotland 2007, with many of us rapidly trying to patch up our wounds from Gleneagles King's the day before.
The first seven holes running out next to the sea have the feeling of a very pure links and are the best bit of the course. After that, the section of the back 9 that protrudes inland is flatter and something of a let-down.
We actually found the course played quite short. However, the general feeling was that we got it relatively easy with calm, bright conditions – although no-one was complaining after the carnage of the previous day.
Honourable mention to Young B who, without a birdie to his name all week, suddenly started holing them from all over the place.
Tomorrow it's the big one: Carnoustie two weeks after the Open…
8/10

I'd heard that this was a great test of links golf and my anticipation was heightened even more when I read Ben Crenshaw's comments about the course. He said that this was one of the truest tests of links golf anywhere in the world. I would have to agree. Having already played several courses in the area including Carnoustie Championship, Panmure, Monifieth and Letham Grange this was possibly the best of the lot. Undulating fairways, excellent greens, fog, sun, wind and rain! Yes we got the lot during our round and it was GREAT! I would strongly recommend Montrose Medal to any golfer plus the hospitality in the clubhouse was brilliant as were the prices: 40p for two cups of tea was fantastic.

Absolutely terrific - played during a visit which included a round on the Championship links at Carnoutsie.
Montrose is only marginally easier. Great test of golf especially for lower handicapper.
Played on 2 fore 1 so great value for money.

If you're a lover of links golf this is definitively a must play. We played it end of May in typical Scottish weather, 9 °C and rain (from hole 7 to 12) but the wind was lenient towards us. Warm welcome at the clubhouse although you have to ring to gain access.

Wonderful! We played the course on a medium windy and partly rainy day in October 2001. The truest links course I've ever played with some fairways nothing but mounds and hollows. As we got to the 18th tee the sun came out over the town as though to welcome us home. Hope to go back in April. Play it if you have the chance.
Robert Smith (england) 26/08/01
A traditional links in the purest sense.
We expected to see the ghost of old Tom Morris walking down a fairway at anytime!!
If you want a true test of golf on a natural course I can think of no better place to play.
Drew Anderson (Scotland) 17/07/01
I am a great over of links golf and this is one of the best links courses that I have played. Our group played it in typically Scottish Summer weather, wind and rain, and enjoyed every hole. Great views across the sea and towards the 'toon'. The front 9 are 9 of the best holes in a row that you could wish to play. I wouldn't mind playing medal golf there week after week.
