Played the Course today with a friend. Loved it. The ranger was really helpful, other players nice too. Course was lovely. The big par 5 downhill is a great looking hole. I have asked for info on membership.

I started playing Balfron this season on a reccommendation from a friend. I have to say that, although I'm not the greatest golfer in the world, this is quite a testing wee course. Brilliant setting with full view of the trossachs and the campsies, its really well laid out but with some REALLY nasty rough (watch your wrists!). I think the par 3's a are a bit of a let down (except perhaps the 14th), but the great par 5's more than make up for it - especially the 15th - a big rolling downhill hole with a burn following the fairway on the left hand side - keep your ball right, whatever you do!
My main complaint is the rough - way too penalising - and while I shouldn't really complain about it as its the mark of good greenkeeping - the greens are like glass. They certainly mucked up my scorecard today. Clubhouse is basic - they operate an honesty box system - although at £15 on a weekday, you can't expect the R&A!
Cheap, friendly and quiet in a stupendous setting - you can't say fairer - I'm going back next week...
