We've taken family holidays around Villamartin for the last two summers and I've played the course twice each year. The improvements this year from last are really noticeable especially the improvements to, and situation of, the tees. There is still some work ongoing on several parts of the course but this year the fairways were in excellent condition, the greens fast and true although the bunkers still lack any depth of sand. Each time I've played I've used a buggy, primarily to get some relief from the sun but also because there are some long walks between greens and next tee.

The 1st is a long dog-leg par 5 which I've never reached in two and doubt I ever will. For the second you cross a fairly busy road and you return back across the road to play the rest of the course. Several tee shots are blind and the rough outside of the first cut can be treacherous.The yellow tees on most holes have been moved back from last year and the course is playing longer. The work on the 17th seems to be almost complete and I remember taking a 9 iron off the tee last year whereas this year the yellows are right back at the top of a hill and driver is needed. This has to be one of the best and toughest par 3s anywhere. My favourite holes are the 9th which has a water feature and the par 5s at the 5th and the 11th but that is probably because on my last visit I managed to birdie them both. The 12th is perhaps the most attractive hole but difficult for all of that. The 14th is a real brute of a par 5 which again I've never reached in two. Overall this is a really enjoyable course with something for golfers of all ability. Some ex-pats I played with said the very wealthy owner has no interest in the course and would like to sell for property development. Some money has obviously been spent since last year so I hope he doesn't get his wish. There are several other courses in the area some of which charge more to play but of the six or so I've played I'd say Villamartin is the equal of any. The clubhouse offers a relaxed friendly service and doesn't try to be anything it isn't. Booking through the local Golf Discount shop I got an adult, a junior and a buggy for 104 euros. I paid a lot more than that at an upmarket, prestigious club 40 kms away and I know which gave the best value for money.

Four of us played Villamartin twice in a day and found it quite challenging for our standard (20 - 28 handicaps). Some interesting holes - 14th is a big challenge where fortune doesn't necessarily favour the brave, and 17th will be magnificent once the new tee boxes are finished. The greens were fine, but there were some slightly tatty bits of the course which detract from its attractiveness. Staff were very helpful & friendly although the lunch was disappointing. I would recommend the course overall for the cost.

Played here twice over the May 2007 bank holiday weekend. As the owner of the course was due to play it, the yellow tees were right at the back, in fact you could say they were really white tees. The layout is really good, the greens were in reasonable condition, but the tee boxes were very poor, but you can see they are beginning to spend money on the course. For example, they are currently building a series of tee boxes on the 17th, which is a great hole, par three, 245 yards over a valley to a two tiered green. I can reccomend playing there but maybe not this yaer.

Played this back in October 2003 but only found this site just now.

The set up at Villamartin is nice enough and there is a fair bit of variety in the set up of the holes. Not too difficult and is fine for higher handicappers.

My criticisms would be that when we played they were sending people off at the 10th at busy time, which resulted in chaos. Greens werent in great quick.

Went to Villamartin last weekend (30/09/04-04/10/04). Played the main course on Friday and Saturday. Thought the course was well laid out but wouldn't play it again for the following reasons:

The greens were in a terrible state - slower than the UK and full of spike marks/pitch marks. They obviously need to keep the greens this slow to stop even more damage, but was very disappointed with them.

The course had quite a lot of areas with ongoing work - lots of sandy earth in big piles and big holes in the ground.

Despite ordering buggies well in advance of our trip, they were not present when we needed them. We had to wait until previous golfers finished the 18th before we could start.

So, overall, not very impressed by a course with a supposedly good name and expensive green fee!!!

Can not beleive there is no web site. Pictures tell a thousand words and this club needs to get with the times. The golf is good, the course is a test whilst a pleasure to play. Booking on the day very easy and the staff are accomodating. If you play courses around the world this is one not to be missed.
