Slightly different atmosphere here to the other courses I have played in Tenerife. We were actually asked for our handicap certificates in the pro-shop and there was a very efficient and professional starter. The course marshall was visible and I have no doubts would keep play moving. I guess this all combined to ensure that even with the course being busy play was pretty quick.
Unlike Pula (and this course is newer) it looked like a lot of money had been invested in the club, ensuring that everything about the course was immaculate. In particular I thought the fairways were superb.
However, I do have slight mis-givings about the course. The first six or seven holes are pretty challenging and well-defined but after that the majority of the holes are pretty straightforward and close to each other. Uphill par 4 is generally followed by parallel downhill par 5. Miss the fairway and its ok as there are fairways either side. Disappointingly for me none of the par 3s are hugely memorable and the 18th is a bit of an anti-climax.
True, the views over the bay are superb but I think I would have liked a little more.
Can't fault the terrace nor the food though.
Overall, get behind the facade and I think Alcanada is a little anti-climatic but despite that I would play again due to the conditioning and the need to redeem the way I played on the first 6 holes!

I played the course twice in April 2006. It's quite a new course in a stunning location overlooking the sea. We received a very warm welcome and the club goes out of its way to ensure that there are no undue frustrations - a starter and regular visits from the marshal ensured that play moved well without any sense of being hurried along. The fairways and greens were immaculate - the greens very fast and possibly overly contoured in places. The course is generally quite open but off the fairway the ground can be stoney, so best avoided (keep your divots shallow!). With fast running fairways the course doesn't play its full length and scoring well is not overly difficult. The clubhouse and faciities are absolutely first class and the food was excellent. Overall, two of my most enjoyable golfing experiences anywhere. Highly recommended.
