If you're in the area, PGA West is worth playing(home of the original Skins Game, Pete Dye Stadium Course). The Palmer Course is private, but arrangements might be made at the clubhouse-it's one of the four courses used in the Bob Hope Classic.

I played the West course in 1996. As a single player I phoned the Club and the Pro tee'd me up with 3 visiting Americans. The Bob Hope Classic is played here and is a good test of golf for all. Greens and fairways were imaculate, the fairways were either tree lined or alongside a cliff making acuracy all important. The temperature was a dry 100 deg. but plenty of iced water on the cart made it comfortable.
