i have played both the, usk and monnow courses and found both to be excellent golfing experiences although while playing the monnow course, i played in torrential weather, although the round was still very enjoyable, i would recommend the facilty to anyone.
both days were first class examples of golf.

Of the two courses at Alice Springs I played the slightly longer Usk course. When you look at the course card your first impression is that the course is short and fairly straightforward. However it turns out to be a delightful challenge, lots of tight shots against a scenic backdrop of the Usk valley. Even the opening short par 4 stroke index 18 has its problems as the slighest of left to right in your tee shot puts you out of bounds. The par 5's are very short, but have protection in front of the greens to discourage over zealous 2nd shots. Unusually the course finishes with two tough 200yd par 3's. A course I would definitely play differently if I go again (more careful positional shots). The complex offers the novelty of satellite navigation buggies which are a real boon given the hillyness and number of blind shots.

I have played both courses at Alice Springs over the last 10 months, both as single and fourball matchs and a society event, one of which I organised. An absolutley cracking venue. Full marks for greens, layout and overall presentation of the courses. A very well organised club and booking the society event was trouble free even though I had to change the day. Nothing was too much trouble. Of the two courses I personally preferred the Usk course although there is little between the two. My only regret was that I played the Monnow course on a hot summer day and I wished that I had hired a buggy, it was a long hilly walk. Definitely worth a visit.
