Visited Anglesey in June 2008 as part of a Golf Break to Anglesey. (also played at Holyhead and Bull Bay).

This is a real links golf course, although not right next to the sea. I think this course gets unfairly branded as "holiday golf" as it is only Par 69 but that could not be further from the truth. Right from the first tee you are met with a frightening looking par 3. After that the course is laid out either side of a railway line on land that could only have been designed for links golf. The greens were superb and there was plenty of chest high gorse but most of the rough just looked a lot worse than it was and was relatively fair and you could generally find your ball.

Whilst not right next to the sea, it is right next to RAF Valley so there is a fair chance that you will have some noise interference from Aircraft on training flights but it didn't bother us.

The Clubhouse was a bit dated and in need of a refurb but that only added to the charm.

Used an "Anglesey Golf Pass" which is £79 for 5 rounds of golf on the island. It is valid for 12 months and great value given the quality and variety of courses available.

Very friendly reception at the pro shop.

The course is a links course but the dunes are only of moderate height and most of the time didn't really come into play. Loads of sheep, very fair rough and excellent greens (small in size).

good bar but shower only for members and no practice facilities (only a net) lead to only a "3".

One word of warning: Play on weekends or bring your earplugs with you because the RAF practise is deafening

I went on a golf trip to North Wales: Caernarfon, Anglesey and Portmadog golf courses. This one was a very weird but enjoyable course. Loads of sheep, a few burnt out cars, rough and ready facilities, but the course and the greens were lovely. A few times you didn't really know where to aim for from the tee, but this only got us in trouble once. Not really a links, but there are lots of massive bumps and hillocks around the greens (especially an early par 3, maybe hole 6 or 7) that make bump and runs off slopes a very enjoyable feature. The best part was the rough: definitely thick enough to make a second shot quite a bit more difficult, but the ball is usually very visible so you dont spend hours looking for a ball that was only slightly off target. Thouroughly recommended.

Tip: aim a bit further right than you think on hole 2's drive!
